I reach up and untie the halter neck of my sundress, so it slides onto the floor, and then I get to work on the tie of my bikini top. ‘How about askinny-dip?’
Luke’s pupils dilate. ‘Sounds perfect.’ He makes quick work of his shorts then runs outside. I hear a splash and can’t help laughing. Can’t fault a man for being eager. I pick up our wine glasses and saunter slowly outside, enjoying the look on his face as I make him wait.
After placing our glasses near the edge of the pool, I slide into the water behind him, resting my backside on the ledge at the edge of the pool, curling my legs around him and locking my ankles at the front.
I lean forward and whisper in his ear. ‘I love you.’
‘Love you, too,’ he says, picking up one of my hands and kissing it. We sit there for a while in silence, just enjoying the closeness.
‘Luke?’
‘Mm-hmm?’
‘Know what?’
He pulls my arms more tightly around himself, giving me the feeling he’d like to erode the barrier our skin creates so we could climb inside each other and merge completely. ‘What?’
I kiss his ear softly. ‘You’re my best friend.’
