“Oh, shit.” He frowned at the phone. “No worries. I didn’t remember the date. Sorry. These can be refunded if it comes to it.”

My excitement returned a bit. “The answer’s yes. If it comes to it, I want to run away with you.”

“That might be the most exciting thing anyone’s ever said to me,” Leo said.

I laughed under my breath to be sure Nate didn’t hear. “I just told you how wet I was a second ago.”

“I stand corrected, that might be the second most exciting thing anyone has said to me.”

We both laughed this time. Somewhere along the line, we were too distracted to note Nate’s return to the hall. By the time we did, it was too late.

My heart dropped.

“No rush, of course.” Nate’s tone sounded sarcastic. Maybe that was his alternative approach to anger?

He went back to his room. I fell back down on the bed in embarrassment. Leo looked a little concerned too but told me not to worry.

“Bright side, we don’t have to sit him down.” Leo tugged on his clothes.

“Dark side, he’s going to kill you,” I countered.

“I’m stronger than him,” Leo insisted and gave me a quick peck on my cheek. “Plus, I’m fighting for you so, punches will not be pulled.”
