I peeled off my shirt and shorts. Perhaps practice with Caleb wouldn’t be entirely terrible? I still needed to learn after all. And being in the water could distract me from the twisting feeling I had around my heart.

Leo’s voice played in my mind. I couldn’t shake how he looked when he asked, “Deal?”

He meant it. I know he did…I think he did.

I climbed into the cold water, still going back and forth in my mind. Caleb hung on a pool noodle, talking to two girls with perfect tans and long lashes. They giggled at his innuendo about basketball and boobs.

I sighed, doing my best to accept I’d been waiting all day for someone who couldn’t even spare me an hour. Tears formed in the corner of my eyes. I blinked them away as fast as they appeared.

Don’t be silly.

With a deep breath, I willed myself to push down the rejection. I’d be fine. I’d survive Leo not wanting me.
