“This is Cecilia.Thisis my friend I was talking to you about.” He releases her and winks at me.
Cecilia greets me with a flirtyHi,but to be honest, I couldn’t care less. This is just another attempt by Joey to hook me up with some random girl, just so I can get over…
“Sky!” I hear someone shout to my left.
My eyes immediately follow the sound and soon enough find the most breathtaking view they’ve had for a while.
Skylar Reed. The craziest and most untamed woman I’ve ever met. She’s the type of person who makes you believe you’re capable of anything. Wild waves frame her face, and beauty marks cover her face in the most unusual spots. Beautiful green eyes and an even more beautiful soul make her the woman I first fell in love with when I was 13. The one for me. Joey doesn’t accept it. He thinks I’m living a delusional life, and I get him. Every time we interact, I become that person who thinks I am capable of anything, so I ask her out. She always said no, with a light smirk on her face. I still can’t figure out how she’s dated practically every person in this village except for me, when I never had eyes for anyone else.
She’s talking to my sister, excited for the Mailview Annual Jump.
“Just give up, man. She has made it clear she wants nothing to do with you.” Joey claps my back. “Now,Cecilia, on the other hand, has heard so much about how amazing you are…” He directs me towards Cecilia, and with a final look at Sky, I move towards the blonde.
“Hi. Sorry for earlier.” I come forward, and she smiles at me.
“No problem, I know all too well what kind of effect Skylar Reed has on guys…” She touches my arm.
“You know her?” I ask, trying to make it sound as normal as possible.
“She’s from my school back in Jersey. What about you?”
“Oh, she helps Mrs. West with the library. I’ve known her for a while…” I try not to get stuck on her and turn to Cecilia.
“Really? And how has Skylar Reed not put her hands on a handsome face like yours before?” She comes closer, and I chuckle.
Look, I’m not going to pretend I’m some kind of loser who can’t talk to girls or isn’t used to having some girls throw themselves at me. It happens, and when everyone leaves aftersummer break, and I’m left here with Joey, we enjoy talking and flirting with the locals. Joey thrives when summer comes, and new girls come to visit, but I can’t quite thrive like him. Because of Sky. Every time I see her, it’s like every single conversation I’ve had with her fills my memory, and I’m lost.
Maybe I should just accept it. I’m handsome, damn it, if Sky and Joey thrive in the summer, so can I.
“I don’t know, I guess I pass by unnoticed.” I smile at her, buying into her game.
She comes closer and starts to outline my silver medal with her finger.
“That is a violation.” She rests her hands against my chest and prepares to put them behind my head.
“What thehellis happening here?!” To say I’m having a heart attack is an understatement. Somehow, someway, Sky teleported beside us and is currently murdering Cecilia with her eyes.
“We’re talking…” I respond, clueless.
“Oh, don’t fuck with me, Johnny. Cecilia was about to suck your face right off!”
People around us start to notice the commotion, and I get flustered.
What am I supposed to respond?
“And what if I was?” Cecilia crosses her arms, and the sudden thought hits me in the head.
“You’re jealous, Reed, aren’t you?” A smirk forms in my mouth, and for the first time since I’ve known her, it seems like she’s speechless.
Then it’s like a storm goes through her eyes.
“You know what, hell yeah, I am.” Then, without a sign, she grabs my collar and presses me against the wooden bodyguard shack.
Her lips crash into mine, and for a second there, it seems I’m about to pass out. And then I internally smack myself and enjoy what’s happening. She makes her point across the village for two heavenly minutes, and when she lets me go, we’re left staring at each other, breathless.
“Does this mean you’re finally mine to keep, Reed?” I smile at her, and her cheeks redden.I love how she blushes so easily…
“As long as you are mine as well, Brown.” She punches my arm, and I get hold of her waist. She laughs with that infectious smile of hers, the one that has been echoing in my dreams since I first heard her laugh.
