“I love that idea,” I tell her.
“Me, too,” says Ollie, waggling his eyebrows. “Any chance I can tag along?”
“Sorry, no boys allowed this time.”
“They don’t want us there to distract them with our good looks from drooling all over the lead singer,” says Jake.
Brit snorts. “Right. That must be the reason.”
“What are you going to wear?” Sienna asks me.
“I ordered a black mini dress online last week,” I tell her, grinning when I think about my most recent purchase. “It was more than I wanted to spend, but it will be worth it.”
“If we hadthiskind of money, you could buy whatever you wanted without worrying about the cost,” sighs Ollie, gesturing to the incredible pool and luxurious surroundings. “Maybe one day.”
“Hate to break it to you, but you’re in the wrong career path,” says Brit.
“Who says I have to earn it myself?”
“Yeah, we can just marry rich,” says Jake.
“I’d even take a widow,” says Ollie. “Or a divorcee.”
“How generous of you,” I say, rolling my eyes.
“What you need is a sugar mommy,” says Sienna.
Ollie perks up at the suggestion. “Hey, great idea. Where can I get me one of those?”
“Maybe Nancy Belview’s in the market,” says Brit, referring to the older woman who’s been known to flirt with Jake and Ollie. “She already has a thing for your ass.”
“I think I’d thrive as a sugar baby,” says Sienna. “Jerking off some old guy is worth an infinity pool, I would say.”
“Violet found the workaround,” says Brit. “She’s got an infinity pool, and there were absolutely no hand jobs involved.” Her eyes narrow in on me. “Unless there’s something you’re not telling us.”
My mouth drops open, eyes widening in horror. “Oh my god, no! Why would you even suggest that? He’s my sister’s ex-boyfriend.”
“Her attractive, wealthy ex-boyfriend,” Sienna points out.
“Who’s an asshole,” I remind them, though the words feel faulty on my tongue.
“If he’s such an asshole, then why did he let us use his pool?” asks Jake.
“If he’s such an asshole, then why did he save your job?” asks Ollie.
“If he’s such an asshole, then why is he letting you stay here rent-free?” asks Brit.
My mouth opens, but nothing comes out. I turn toward Brit, who’s applying a third round of sunscreen to her pale, porcelain skin. “You said don’t ever get involved with rich people,” I remind.
Brit snorts, rubbing lotion down her arms. “You’re about as involved as can be without sleeping with the guy. Clearly, that ship has sailed.”
“Speaking of…” says Sienna, smirking at something over my shoulder. I glance behind me toward the windows and spot Landon in the kitchen. Have we really been in the pool all day? Before I can overthink it, I pull myself out of the water and grab a towel, wrapping it around my waist as I knock on the window and wave at him to come outside. He hesitates in the doorway, leaning against the frame with his arms crossed.
“Hey, how was work?” I ask. “Finish prepping everything for the shoot?”
“Almost.”
“You’ll get there,” I assure. “Let me introduce you to my friends. They’re dying toformallymeet you.” He cocks an eyebrow like he doesn’t believe me but follows me to the edge of the pool. “Guys, this is Landon. Landon, this is Sienna, Ollie, Jake, and Brit.”
