“Alright, let’s take this into the office, and we can go over everything. Little Fox, do you want us to tuck you into bed first, or do you want to stay up with us?” I lead everyone in the house and make our way to the stairs.

“I’ll go tuck her into my room, it’s a secured room, and there is no way anyone can make it in there.” I nod swiftly and lead David and Jason to the office after giving Nyx a kiss and saying goodnight.

Jason is roughly six-foot tall. He is all lean muscle and no tattoos. He is one of the few Marines I know that isn’t covered in tattoos. He has auburn hair that is curly on the top but clean shaven on the sides. He is the youngest of our bunch, in his mid-twenties. Only served 4 years before his knee was blown out. Still kick ass in hand to hand combat. I wouldn’t want to face him in a back alley.

I sit down at my desk in our main office. Hutch has his set up in his bedroom, but this is the office we use when we have meetings here. Two large oak desks sit side by side. Mine just has my laptop sitting in the middle with my filing cabinets along the wall. Hutch’s desk has two large monitors that he can hook his laptop to. The office is painted light gray, and the only thing that hangs on the walls, behind the desks, is each of our honorabledischarge certificates, and in front of the desks is a painted mural of the Devil Dog Security logo.

Both of my men take their seats in the chairs across from our desks. As we settle in, Hutch sulks back to the office, not thrilled to have left Nyx in his room. He flops in his executive desk chair and starts pulling up his computer.

“Alright, my girl-“

“Our girl.” I correct Hutch.

“Ok, fine. Our girl is lonely and cold in my bed. Can we speed up this little chat so I can comfort her and make sure she isn’t having nightmares?”

“Yes, pretend you only want to go back to her just to keep her safe in her sleep.” I roll my eyes at him before turning to face David and Jason. “Okay, so Nyx’s apartment has been broken into twice. There was a message spray painted on this house and we have received a package here. We have no idea who could be behind these. We believe there may be more than one, but the only thing caught on camera is a man in a hoodie. Or what we assume is a man based on the frame of the person.”

Hutch turns one of his monitors around to show the handful of videos we have captured of the person or persons. In all the videos, the stalker is in a dark-colored hoodie, and baggy jeans. In the brighter daylight, they are in a hat with the hood pulled-up, in the dark, it appears to just be the hood pulled up to obscure their face in the shadows.

“Sir, not to sound like a dick, but what exactly are you looking for us to do?” David asks. “I can’t hack, even if I could, Hutch is the best computer guy we have. Jay and I are more suited to being bodyguards.”

“You can always speak openly with us, David. So what we are looking for is just a couple guys here at night, you two will be the primary guys on the job. We will find a couple more to back you up, but you guys will have the final say. This is your new project.”

“Ok, let’s just get through tonight so you guys can go to your girl. We can figure things out for sure tomorrow.” Jason says so matter-of-fact. These two don’t seem fazed at all that we are both dating the same girl, and I appreciate it. That is one less thing for us to worry about while we are dealing with this shitshow.

“Sounds good. Keep your head on a swivel. I’m almost positive we won’t see this asshole again tonight, but don’t let your guard down.” I give them the rest of their instruction.

We finish up here, and do a quick walk around the house before we head inside and back up to our girl. I’m sure I’m not going to sleep well tonight. My demons are simmering just under the skin. I sent Hutch back to his room with our girl. I will sit out here and guard them both.

Nothing is more important than them.

CHAPTER 38

NYX

The last few days have been long and stressful. The guys have been doing a full overhaul on their security at the house. They have all-new cameras with updated night vision. Every single door to the house has a biometric scanner that is only accessible by the four of us, Demitri, Graham, Callum and myself. We also now have a rotating team of the guys running night security. Eventually the guys want to have a team who can escort me out of the house, but they are in the process of hiring more men.

We are usually gone during the day, and if we are home, we are always on high alert. There have been no more known visits from my stalker, this puts me on high alert. I have been going to work and coming straight back to the house. I am so lucky to have the home gym that the guys have in the basement, or else all this amazing food Demitri has been making us would go straight to my ass.

Kyra has convinced me to “break out of my self-imposed jail sentence” and have a girl’s day out today. Graham and Demitri are out at a meeting, so they are not able to join us today. I get dressed in my conceal carry leggings because there is absolutelyno way I am leaving this compound without some sort of protection. I slip Graham’s oversized hoodie over my head and grab my purse before heading out to the garage.

Climbing into my car, I pull my phone out to hook it up to CarPlay. Putting on my favorite playlist, I pull up the group text and let the guys know I am heading out.

Me: Hey! I am heading to go get Kyra.

Blue: Be safe, I hope you have protection.

Demon: Check in every so often please.

Me: Yes, Blue I have my gun. Demon, I will make sure to let you know where we end up and every time we change locations.

Both guys send thumbs-up emojis, and I just smile at their protective natures. I know a bit about Stasi’s story, but Dee hasn’t given me the full details, but I know with my stalker it’s making him anxious. He would keep me up in an ivory tower if he could. Shit, the man would probably build an actual tower if he thought it would guarantee my safety.

We pull-up outside of the Mexican restaurant. We decided queso and margaritas were necessary for the chaos going on. The building is brick on the outside, but as soon as you walk in, the tables and walls are all adorned with colorful tiles, hand-painted murals line the walls not covered in brick.

“Holy fuck, the fajita effect is in full play today.” I laugh as two sizzling plates walk past.

“Right!” Kyra giggles.
