Then I texted,Does it have Toni’s approval?
I hit the remote to lower the garage door, grabbed my purseand headed to the house.
Halfway there, I got a return text from Tod that read,Ofcourse it does! You’ll be a goddess.I swear. It’s perfect!
I’d seen some of the pictures of the other RCHB weddings.
I trusted him.
I hit the back door, the laundry room, but stopped dead inthe doorway to the kitchen.
Because Darius wasn’t cooking.
Darius wasn’t doing anything but sitting at a stool by theisland, a full wineglass and an open bottle beside him, staring at me like hewanted to murder me.
ChapterTwenty
Scrapper
“Did you forget to tell me something?”he asked inthat dangerous voice he’d used when things first sparked off between him andDanni weeks ago.
God, in the ten minutes since I talked with Ally, did shecall Darius and fill him in on my work situation?
They were tight, but why would she do that?
Cautiously, I moved forward and put my purse on the island.
Then I said, “Ally doesn’t think it’s going to be a bigdeal.”
His eyebrows shot up.“Ally knows about it too?”
Okay, wait.
What was he talking about?
“What are you talking about?”
“You first,” he retorted.“What areyoutalkingabout?”
“The shit hit the fan with my cheating boss today.”
“And why does Ally need to assure you it’s not a big deal?”
“Because he came right to me and asked me questions aboutthat file I found.”
I’d told Darius all about it.
At the time, he seemed unconcerned.
Then again, he’d trained Ally to be the investigator shewas, so he would be.
“You think he’s gonna target you?”he asked.
“He came right to me.And he’s a jerk.And a narcissist.”
“And what can he do to you?”
“Fire me.”
