“While you’re in the mood to be considerate, I also think we can do better than a midnight curfew, considering the dance is over at eleven. You know all the kids like to hang out afterwards, grab food, and stuff. What about two?” I put on my best smile.
Yaseer’s face fell and I lifted my hands in the prayer position in front of my face.
“Best I can give her is one more hour,” he smirked.
“Why did you smirk?”
“Dang, I can’t smirk now?” He shrugged. “Come on, so I can introduce you to my parents.”
Yaseer grabbed my hand and we exited the bedroom. Descending the stairs, I knew his parents had made themselves at home because they both had champagne flutes in their hands.
“Come on, y’all came in here opening my shit?” Yaseer badgered.
“Well, it’s a celebration. You have a woman in your house,” his mom snickered. “Is this the same young woman you stole my cake for?”
“I’m so sorry he did that,” I apologized.
“You do not have to apologize. I’ll keep sharing my cheesecake if that means you’ll stick around. Amill has been talking our heads off about you while she got her makeup done. Just don’t hurt them and we will be fine.”
“Never,” I blushed. “I know everything is happening so fast but I’m falling for Yaseer.”
“I already fell for you,” Yaseer declared, planting a kiss on my cheek.
“Daddy, open the door for Tyler, please!” Amill shouted from her bedroom.
Yaseer released my waist and went to get the door.
“My grandbaby told me you got Yaseer to cave on letting her get her makeup done. We’ve been going back and forth with him all week,” Vicky nudged my shoulder, passing me a champagne flute.
“More like Amill played me,” I confessed. “I had no idea Yaseer didn’t approve.”
“Well, she looks amazing regardless.”
Yaseer reappeared with a mug on his face. Tyler scanned the living room from the chandelier to the massive windows. “Fix your face and be nice.” I mouthed to Yaseer. He mugged me before his dad shoved the champagne flute in his hand. He threw the drink back and turned to face Tyler.
“Damn, Tyler. You never seen a nice house before?”
“I mean, not like this,” he admitted.
“Oh, Yaseer, hush. Tyler, it’s nice to meet you. I’m Freddy and this is Vicky. We are Amill’s grandparents. You’ve met her father, Yaseer, and this is his girlfriend, Marissa.”
“It’s nice to meet you all,” Tyler greeted us. He took a moment going around the room to shake hands. I was right behind him collecting the empty champagne flutes and placing them in the dishwasher.
“I’ll be right back,” Vicky excused herself.
“So what are y’all doing after homecoming?” Yaseer questioned.
“I know she wanted to go to an afterparty and I’m down to do whatever she wants to do.”
“Except sex unless you want me to knock your…”
“Yaseer,” I nudged him.
“I’d like to formally introduce my granddaughter, Amill Yasmeen Haynes,” Vicky sang from the top of the stairs, snatching our attention.
Amill came into view at the top of the stairs, garnering everyone’s undivided attention. Her blush pink homecoming dress hugged her curves perfectly, and the soft fabric caught the light with every step she took. Her makeup was flawless, and I loved the light dash of blush at the tip of her nose. She descended the stairs with her right hand gripping the railing. Amill was giving royalty tonight.
“You look amazing, baby girl,” Yaseer complimented.
