‘Do you remember when I told you that some individuals have sparks of magic within them? For you it’s fire, but for your friend Rex it’s the sight.’The voice sounded excited.
‘The sight?’I had an idea of what he meant, but I’d need him to spell it out for me to be sure.
‘Yes, he is one of the rare individuals that can see beyond the veil of your world through time and space. Very similar to my own abilities, Juneau, it’s a rather exciting find to be frank as I am the only Seer in my time and I always figured I would be the last,”the voice explained before continuing.‘He can see into the future, but he needs something to jumpstart his abilities, the same way that I did for you.’
I gasped, excitement filling me as I looked into Rex’s icy eyes. “Rex, what if youcouldlook into the future?” I asked excitedly.
“What do you mean?” Rex looked suspicious.
“The voice says that you have the same magical spark that I do, but instead of my flames you can see things beyond the veil through time and space… ergo the future,” I explained hurriedly, ready to get right into jumpstarting his ability.
Rex paled visibly. “Absolutely not.” He stood up from his seat suddenly as if I’d reached out and burned him.
“Absolutely not, what?” Doc asked as he descended the steps, freshly showered.
“Rex has special abilities just like I do,” I said quickly before Rex could explain it away.
“Really?” Doc sounded more curious than anything. “That would explain why he sees shit sometimes.”
“I told you about that in confidence, Doc,” Rex grumbled. “I’ve seen enough spooky shit in my lifetime that if I never see it again, it’ll be too soon.”
The rest of the pack and the BBs came through the door from the bar, clearly having heard the entire conversation.
“But what if you could figure out just what the Titans are scheming?” I pushed, hoping he would see my side of things.
“No, you haven’t seen what I have. When my mom and the rest of the BBs fucked around with that Ouija board I saw shadows of some of the scariest shit I’ve ever seen. So excuse me if I don’t willingly sign up to see more,” Rex replied stubbornly, crossing his muscular arms over his chest as he spoke.
‘Tell him if he does it he’ll actually be able to control what he sees so he won’t accidentally see through the veil and scare himself,’the voice chimed in and I repeated his words.
“How can he be so sure that I can control it?” Rex asked, and I knew we had him hooked.
“Because he’s the same as you, Rex, he can see things too.” I put my cloth back into the bowl and rounded the table. “I can help you too, imagine being one step ahead of these jerks?”
The room was silent as Rex contemplated my words carefully before finally letting out an aggravated sigh. “Fine, but if I start seeing more spooky shit I’m chucking your ass right back through that mirror.”
I held my hand out to him with a grin. “It’s a deal.”
‘So what’s next?’I asked the voice as Rex took my hand and we shook on it.
‘Well you need to jumpstart his abilities, I did it by accident when I surrounded you with my magic. You are going to have to take a more conventional road. I also want to warn you that you will be the conduit for what is about to come next, there is a high chance that you could get hurt, are you all right with that?’
‘As long as I can help them, I’ll do whatever it takes,’I replied. I hated that anyone wanted to hurt the pack that I had grown to care so much about, especially since all they wanted to do was live their own lives.‘Now, how do I jumpstart his abilities?’
‘You’ll have to kiss him, I’m afraid.’The voice sounded sheepish as he explained it to me.
“You must be joking with me,” I said out loud, my face flaming. It wasn’t that I had never imagined myself kissing Rex. I had. Several times, in fact, but he was always clear with his boundaries.
‘I am not,’the voice replied dryly.‘You need to either surround him with your magic or find an intimate point of contact and may I remind you that your abilities lie with fire? You don’t want a roasted alpha, do you?’
‘No,’I grumbled before turning my attention back to the waiting pack. “I apologize in advance if this makes you uncomfortable,” I told Rex and stepped forward before he could ask me what I meant by that.
He was quite a bit taller than I was, so I had to grip the collar of his shirt and yank him down so that I could get to his lips. Our kiss was awkward at first, mostly due to the fact that Rex stiffened as soon as our mouths connected.
‘Push the tiniest kernel of your magic into him and try to do it without sparking a flame,’the voice advised.
‘Please bugger off,’I shooed him out of my head, not wanting my first kiss with the stubborn alpha in front of me to be marred by someone else in my head.
I was worried for a moment that Rex was going to push me away, but he quickly surprised me by pulling me in closer, his strong arms locking around my back as my feet left the floor.
