Doc smirked. Everyone always asked us that and the answer was always the same. “Because he bites.”
Rex gnashed his teeth at her, probably intending to scare her, but instead her perfume filled the room, making every alpha in the room stiffen. Apparently, our guest liked the idea of being bitten by our surliest alpha, even if he was being a jackass to her.
“Sorry,” Juneau whispered sheepishly, her face turning tomato red as she tried to calm herself down.
Podcast reached across the couch to pat her knee, holding up his phone for her to read. I had to crane my neck to catch the words on the screen.
‘IT’S OK, REX DOES THAT TO ME TOO,’ he wrote, offering her a silly grin and shutting his screen off before any of the other alphas could read it. Her expression relaxed into something more contemplative as she tried to process his words.
“Anyway,” Doc said, shifting uncomfortably in his seat. It was clear that her sugary lemon cake scent was affecting him and he was trying not to let it show. Unfortunately for him, we could all feel it through the bond until he shut his end down and cut us off. “Do you have any other questions for us?”
Juneau shook her head, looking completely overwhelmed.
“Great, well today I’m going to be your teacher. I’m going to show you the basics so you don’t accidentally light the house on fire by putting metal in the microwave or something.”
“Great!” Juneau’s expression brightened for a moment before crumpling once again into confusion. “May I ask what a microwave is?”
Everyone groaned. It seemed we were going to have a lot of work on our hands to bring Juneau up to modern-day speed.
Chapter Nine
“Emperorpenguinsareamongthe tallest of their genus. Living in mass communities in the frozen landscape of Antarctica the Emperor penguins are a part of a near threatened class of individuals…”I droned out the audio of the video I was in the middle of editing, my mind far away from Emperor penguins and their daily lives.
I pushed my headphones off of my head and closed my laptop, shoving it under a pillow in my nest before turning my attention to Storm. The alpha had crawled into my nest an hour ago after showing Juneau how the TV worked. He was now busy sketching something on a small canvas, his dark brows furrowed as he focused.
Reaching out to him, I gave his shirt a tug to get his attention.
“What’s up?” he asked, finishing whatever line he was working on before looking up at me.
‘What do you think?’I asked, scooting in close and forcing him to momentarily abandon his project and put his arm around me. I inhaled his rain-soaked smell and fought off the urge to press my nose underneath his chin where the scent was the strongest.
“About what?” Storm’s brown eyes were on my face and I could already see the warmth of desire in them.
‘Juneau,’I said, mimicking curly hair.
“I think that if she lights one more thing on fire in the microwave Rex might cry,” Storm said with a snort which I couldn’t help but mirror. This morning she’d accidentally put a spoon in the microwave when warming up a cup of tea. Little sparkles of lightning had scared her so much that she’d avoided the kitchen for the rest of the day.
‘But do you think she’s… pretty?’I asked hesitantly, my cheeks growing red. The initial attraction that I felt for Juneau Wilde was morphing into something decidedly different. I wanted to be around her all the time and teaching her one of her first lessons in sign language last night had been more fun than I ever thought possible.
Storm pursed his lips, like he was thinking about it. “I do. Does that bother you?”
I shook my head.‘Should it?’
The dynamics of our relationship hadn’t changed since I became an omega two years ago, but now that Juneau had been thrown into the mix I could feel them shifting like the world was moving too fast on its axis.
Storm didn’t answer me, but instead chose to bring my face to his. His kisses were always the sweetest. Emboldened by the sheer level of love he felt for me rumbling down the bond, I slid my tongue along his.
“Do you want her to kiss you like this too?” Storm asked, out of breath when we finally pulled away from each other.
I thought about it for a moment, my mind conjuring up the image of Juneau’s pink lips as they pressed against mine. I nodded, my face flaming.
‘Is it weird of me to feel like that so quickly?’I settled back into his side and let him run his fingers through my hair.
“I don’t pretend to understand omega instincts, love, but I would just say to be open to it. It’s not every day that a magical omega falls into our laps after all,” Storm said, sounding incredibly wise.
I was about to say something else to him when the door to my nest opened and Doc launched himself inside with a groan.
“I never realized how hard teaching someone about the future would be,” he muttered as he put his head into my lap and wrapped his arms around my lower back.
