“Subtle,” I murmured without looking at him.

“Fuck subtle.”

“How was your shower?”

“Great. What are we watching?”

“A football game, but don’t ask me who’s playing. I can’t focus on anything because I keep thinking about those two psychos on the loose.”

“Speaking of psychos, Mendoza called me.”

I blinked. “Excuse me?”

“Yeah, while I was driving to Grangetown. He had a message for Biancchi.”

“What kind of message?”

“Oh, just a bunch of the same old, same old. Tell Marc I’m coming for him, yada, yada. And a few insane things, which I won’t repeat.”

“I think Mendoza likes him,” I said in a low voice. “Biancchi, I mean.”

“I’m inclined to agree, which means Biancchi is in deep shit.”

“How is he, by the way?”

“His marriage is on the rocks, his job is on the line, and the biggest gun smuggler in the country is on his back. How would you feel?”

I chuckled. “And I thought my life was complicated.”

When Adam draped his arm across the back of the sofa above my shoulders, I looked at him with alarm.

“What are you doing?”

“Making myself comfortable,” he retorted, as his blue gaze found mine. “Why is everyone still here, Jordie?”

“I can’t just tell them to leave,” I whispered, giving him a pointed look. “It would be rude.”

“Oh, really? Incidentally, I found your thingie.”

I frowned in confusion. “What thingie?”

“That thingie in your bathroom cabinet. What’s it called… a butt plug?”

I gasped, jabbing him in the ribs. “Keep your voice down. It’s not what you think. I used it just once. It was for… educational purposes.”

“Hey, I’m not judging.”

“Where… what did you do with it?”

Adam smirked. “Guess.”

It was one of those smirks that always confounded me, because I never knew what they meant. Except this one... I knew what this one meant.

“No!” I exclaimed, wide-eyed. “You didn’t.”

“I did.”

Hold up! Adam Markland put a butt plug into his ass? For me? The fact made me short-circuit, so no wonder I slammed my lips on his, for once not caring about our audience. His lips met mine readily, and a smile that accompanied them told me he anticipated my unhinged reaction. I was clambering onto his lap like a monkey when I heard whistles and cheers behind me.
