Buck looked at me, startled. “I didn’t say anything.”
“I didn’t mean you. I was just… talking to myself.”
“That’s bad, dude.”
No shit.
It was late in the evening when the gang arrived, which meant Maddox, John Smith, and Buck. Maddox showed up with a case of beer and sporting a black eye that complemented his equally dark irises.
“What the hell happened to you?” I said, closing the door behind him.
“Eh, I had a score to settle. I also lost my knife, which is a bummer.”
He left the beers on the kitchen counter, where they joined the already unholy amount of booze and snacks the others had brought.
“I hope you didn’t lose itinsomeone,” I remarked. “By the way, this score you had to settle… did it have anything to do with him?” I pointed at John Smith’s bandaged wrist.
“He’s my LD brother. Of course, it had to do with him. All for one and one for all, right?”
“Right,” I murmured when my doorbell rang. “Who the fuck is that? If one of you invited what’s-her-name here, I swear to God, there will be blood.”
When I opened the door and found myself gazing into the sky-blue eyes, my heart nearly stopped. Before I could recover, the largest hands on the planet cupped my face, and the softest lips found mine. The sweetest tongue licked at mine as I ended up pinned to the door. I returned the kiss, rubbing my growing erection against the equally hard dick, only to break the kiss abruptly.
“You asshole!” I exclaimed, pushing Adam away. “How dare you? Not one call, you jerk! Not one. Do you have any idea how worried I was? I already saw you attacked… shot… injured… dead in a ditch somewhere, you prick!”
“My phone died,” Adam said sheepishly. “And I forgot my charger at home.”
“Right, and no one could lend one to you?”
“As luck would have it, no one had the one that fit.”
“How can you be back already?” I said, checking the time on my phone. ”Did you find a time machine or something?”
“Not as such. The chopper was flying a wounded guard to Smitsville General Hospital, so I tagged along.”
“What about your car?”
“Marcello will arrange for someone to return it,” Adam replied, cocking his eyebrow. “Are we done with the million questions? I need a shower, a drink, and a fuck, not necessarily in that order.”
“Shhh,” I shushed him. “Everyone’s here.”
He frowned. “Who the fuck is everyone, and why did you invite them?”
“Everyone from the LD, and they invited themselves. Just get in, and I’ll explain everything.”
“That’s my freaking luck,” Adam murmured, squeezing my ass in passing. “God, I missed that ass.”
“Are you hungry?”
“No, but I would like a drink and a cup of coffee.”
He followed me into the kitchen, ignoring the surprised looks of our already half-drunk colleagues.
“Tequila?” I said, taking the bottle out of the fridge as he sat at the kitchen island.
“Make it double.”
“How are things in Grangetown?”
