“Someone broke into my house,” he told me, forcing me to clutch the back of his shirt. I looked around, seeing nothing out of place though.
“Roman, how can you tell?” I whispered, worried they might still be in here.
“Things are moved.”
“What in the world?”
“Saranna, this is my sanctuary, believe me, they don’t have to make a mess for me to know things aren’t right.” He turned to look at me, his brow raised, and I groaned.
“Pack my stuff,” I said to which he nodded. “Where is that we’re going?”
“A location only I know about. Far away from here.”
“And what if they find me there?” I threw out, starting to worry that maybe Roman wasn’t the best at this after all. I mean, someone managed to get through his front door, not sure how with how he had everything checked and monitored.
“If they find you after everything, they deserve to take you because there is no one, and I mean no one Saranna, who knows about my second home. Marcell doesn’t even know.”
Before I could say anything else, he pulled out his cell then hit a button and the next instant, I heard Marcell on speaker phone.
“What is it?”
“Someone broke into my place, Marcell. I have to go off the grid.”
Why did that sound so ominous? I wasn’t sure.
I also wasn’t sure what scared me more.
Having someone find me after a few days.
Or being in a secluded area with Roman with no one else to pop by.
Chapter 6
Roman
“Are we there yet?” she whined, and I almost wanted to smack her. That was the third time she had asked something in the last twenty minutes.
“No,” I growled out, making her laugh.
I knew she was riling me up, but yet, I still gave in to her, still growled and got annoyed.
Not that I truly was.
I think I just liked her laugh. And it was far better to see that smile on her face than the worry in her eyes.
Because there was worry.
And I didn’t blame her.
I couldn’t figure out how anyone got through my gate, unless they snuck in with Marcell when I wasn’t paying attention, but hell, it’s not like my land knowledge was foremost on people’s minds. Not that it couldn’t be figured out, but shit, that was damn fast.
“It’s a gorgeous drive.”
“Thank you. I don’t take it often enough.”
“Can you finally tell me where we’re going? I don’t think I’m bugged.”
“A place that no one thinks is around anymore.”
