Their comfort levels must have rubbed off on the dogs, too, because the pair were currently sleeping like the dead, sprawled out, half on top of each other, with their little legs pointed skyward.

So damned cute.

As was Bobbie, even after a night of solo sailing which had been preceded by a fucked-up, nerve-wracking escape from that damned mansion.

That damned mansion…

Buck had relayed everything Bobbie had told him to Mason this morning while he was on his way to the marina. And right now, the part of him that wasn’t fixated on stripping Bobbienaked, was hoping for word that not only the investigation into Bobbie’s brother’s antics at his house the night before was turning up something, but that a deep dive was also being done on one Monsieur Provard.

“What are you thinking about?” Bobbie asked, pushing her second helping of scrambled eggs around on her plate instead of eating them, lust clear in every line of her body.

Buck grunted, knowing he had to remedy her distraction. “I’ll fill you in, but you have to eat a bite for every detail I give you that’s roiling around in my brain.”

Bobbie grinned like a mad woman, and agreed.

“I can get behind that deal.”

She forked up a good sized, fluffy yellow bite, and popped it into her mouth.

Shit. He’d done it now. How much should he tell her? He’d been going to spill about his nighttime intruder, eventually and after they’d exhausted each other, but now…

Would it spoil the mood? He hoped not.

“Okay. I was going to wait. But last night I got a visit from one of your brothers.”

Her mouth dropped open, but thankfully her eggs didn’t spill out. She’d already managed to chew that first bite.

“What the fuck? What did they want?” Her ire was apparent.

“It, uh, wasn’tactuallya visit. It was more like a surreptitious recon of my property,” he huffed.

Her brows came together; anger and concern etched on her face.

Buck continued. “I had just finished talking to you, and Cooper needed to go out. Once we hit the front yard, Cooper started to growl, of all things.”

“Good boy,” Bobbie allowed, although her mood hadn’t lightened.

“I know, right? My first thought was that he was far too little to be picking up on anything sketchy, but then I heard what his sensitive ears had already detected; someone creeping around in the tree line next to the house.”

“What did you do?” she asked, gripping her fork with whitened knuckles.

“First, I snuck inside and called the local PD. Then I made Cooper stay put, and I went back outdoors to see what the perp was looking to do.” Buck let out a gust of air. “That’s when I caught sight of the truck, and I knew it was one of your brothers.” He still wasn’t happy that he hadn’t just tackled the asshole, damn the consequences, but then he might have found himself locked up in the pokey before the situation could be unraveled.

“I eased close enough to snap a picture of him, and I got the license plate, too, before I made a noise and scared him off. By the time the cops arrived, he was long gone.”

“What did they say? What did you tell them?”

“That’s at least four more questions at this point.” Buck remembered his conditions, and encouraged her to eat with a tilt of his head. She complied, quickly shoveling in the rest of her eggs until her cheeks were bulging like a chipmunk’s, before nodding for him to continue.

Buck couldn’t help but smile. She looked so damned adorable. But she’d behaved nicely with his demands, so he gave her the rest of the story.

“I told them that they couldn’t go after your brother; that his behavior was part of an ongoing investigation by the Orono police, and that they should contact Chief Ildavorg or my brother Mason this morning to corroborate and maybe do a joint walk-around of my property. They were good about it, taking my statement and a copy of the pictures I took before leaving. And that’s all I know so far.”

While he’d wrapped up, Bobbie had chewed down her large mouthful, then scooped up her remaining bacon to eat, as well.

“Good.” She finished swallowing. “And just in case you’re worried that this new information has affected my libido. Don’t. My brothers were assholes before, and they’ll always be assholes.” She gave him a sly look and pushed her plate away. “Now, are you ready to get to the fun stuff?”

Leave it to Bobbie to use the word, fun.
