Regulus assured her that Ewan would be well cared for, and she believed him.

“Farrrrrrr….ennnn.” Eli’s groan drew her focus, and she looked into his tired, green eyes. “My father…”

“He’s in the wind, Eli. But we will find him. He’s free from the Thirteen’s control. That I can promise you.”

Eli reached for her, and when she rolled on top of him, something she’d never known had been out of sorts settled deep inside of her. “We survived,” he said.

“We did. But Mara wasn’t there.”

Her mate’s entire body stiffened. “Fuck me.”

Farren brushed a lock of hair off his forehead. “The practitioner Caitlin charmed gave us this. ‘The voice of one who cannot speak and the sight of one who has never seen will find the blood of the stone. Without those, you are doomed to fail, and the elemental will be ours forever.’”

“What the hell does that mean?” Eli asked.

“No feckin’ clue. But it’s somethin’. If there’s a divine bein’ up there guidin’ us, she’ll send Paddy here right quick, and perhaps he’ll have an idea. Cade’s lost himself to madness, and Liam…he can hardly stand it.”

Farren skimmed her lips over Eli’s, and the connection between the two of them soothed her in ways she’d never known she’d needed.

“We need to find him. Now,” Eli said, but as he tried to sit up, his eyes rolled back in his head.

“Easy now, luv. The practitioner who almost killed Caitlin, Liam, Cade, and Peter wanted to break the matin’ bond between Cade and Mara. He claimed that would ensure their success. He failed, so it’s likely Mara’s still alive. And he mentioned the baby. I don’t think they plan on killin’ Mara until the pup is born.” Farren skimmed the back of her hand over Eli’s cheek. “When the sun sets—“ she glanced over at the clock on the nightstand, “—in four hours, we’ll have a pack meetin’ and figure out what to do next. Until then…”

Eli wrapped his arms around her. “I love you, Farren. I want to seal the mating. I don’t want to be parted from you ever again.”

Despite the stress and strain, the worry the whole house carried for Mara, the uncertainty of not knowing where Paulo was or whether Ewan would accept his new existence, Farren let herself smile. At least one part of her life made sense. Her love for her mate.
