Chapter32
Asoft rain started just as Mia finished washing her face and wandered into Seth’s overlarge bedroom. She’d left a message with Aunt Dotty that she wouldn’t be home tonight. The level of violence constantly around Seth concerned her, yet she felt safest by his side. She could handle herself and use a weapon—even against wolf shifters now that she had silver bullets—but there was no denying that Seth was the most dangerous predator out there.
And he was all hers.
His dark gaze tracked her, and heat tugged low in her abdomen. “Seth. You’re injured,” she murmured.
“I’m not that hurt,” he argued, his gaze sweeping down her torso.
Her nipples peaked.
She slid into the bed, automatically moving for his heat. Had her heart rate returned to normal? She wasn’t sure. Seth seemed so invincible, but anybody could be killed.
He was as solid as the silver he mined—a powerful and strong metal. But metal corroded and melted.
Right now, he was the deadliest predator around, but she knew in her very soul that if anything happened to her or the baby, he wouldn’t survive. She felt the same way about him. It was terrifying to consider a world without Seth. “I was scared when Jenny called.”
“You never have to be scared.” He pushed her onto her back and rolled on top of her. The holes in his chest and legs had closed, but his body felt hotter than ever. Perhaps that was a sign of more healing occurring.
“According to Greg, you pushed out a ton of silver bullets,” she murmured, letting her knees fall to the sides so he could press against her. Sparks flew from her clit, lighting her entire body on fire.
“I’ve always been able to expel silver easier than most,” Seth admitted, balancing himself on his elbows and heating her entire body. “I think it’s the Alpha blood. Now, more than ever, I have too much to live for to be in anything but top form.” He ran his hand down her back and cupped her ass, pulling her against his hard length. His hand was firm, and his fingers were gentle.
She gasped as live wires uncoiled inside her. It was getting difficult to think, and she had a point to make. “I don’t like being kept out of the loop.” She still had no idea who’d died on the front lawn.
“You can’t have it both ways, baby,” he murmured, ducking and taking her mouth in a fierce kiss. “If you want to work for the FBI, no pack business. If you want to be all-in with the pack, and that’s what I’d prefer, then no FBI.” He kissed her again, going deep—so deep she forgot to argue.
She moaned and arched into him, barely registering when he pulled off the T-shirt she’d borrowed. Her panties were next, and then with a quick and surprisingly graceful move, he slid down her body, and his mouth found her sex. She quickly rose to a climax, shuddering wildly even as he forced her back up,soclose to the precipice, his talented mouth more than destroying her.
Her eyes closed, and she gyrated against his mouth, crying out as she fell over the ledge again. He nipped her clit, and she shuddered, gasping. Then he wandered up her body, leaving his mark on both hipbones, her rib cage, and then taking a torturous turn at her breasts.
When he finally reached her mouth again, she was so needy she grabbed his flanks and dug in her nails. “Now.”
His grin was quick and almost boyish. “You’re demanding.” Slowly, he penetrated her, taking his time and drawing out the moment. “I don’t want you to be torn between duties. I’ve seen the shadows in your eyes, and I won’t allow it.”
She blinked. “I don’t need to be shielded.”
“Too bad.” His kiss was gentle, and then he wandered up her jaw to capture her earlobe between his deadly teeth. “You will be shielded, and you will be protected. That is nonnegotiable, my little warrior mate.”
At least he saw her as a warrior. She leaned up and bit his chin. Hard.
He snorted and bit her back, his teeth barely making contact. “I like that you were worried about me. I’m not used to it.”
Now he was being sweet? “I love you, Volk. Worrying comes with the territory.” She reached up and smoothed a lock of hair off his forehead.
“I guess I still feel like that’s a miracle,” he admitted, starting to move, his eyes the unreal blue of a moonless sky.
Her breath caught in her chest as he dragged against nerves inside her that only responded to him. She wasn’t sure they’d even existed before Seth. Even so, as raw as his passion was, it was his vulnerable statement that dug deep into her body and took hold—stronger than any human force. “You’re the miracle,” she whispered, arching against him.
“No.” He nipped her nose, his powerful body engulfing hers. Hard and fast, he hammered into her, so much heat pouring off him that sweat rolled between her breasts. “You will always be my miracle, Mia Stone.” He ducked his head and kissed her, his lips firm, and his tongue devastating.
She returned his kiss, holding on to him as he took her to unimaginable places. Heat and fire blasted inside her, and she whispered his name, feeling as if parts of him would always remain in her—deep down where only Seth Volk could find.
He gently bit her bottom lip and then released her mouth, shuddering with his climax.
This moment was theirs. The force of the rain outside increased, battering the window, but the storm inside had calmed.
His heart beat steadily against her chest, and she relaxed to the steady cadence. “So, I have to tell you about the red bow found on the newest victim as well as the call to my mother.” She gave him the full story, knowing that communication had to go both ways. To his credit, he didn’t interrupt. Finally, she wound down.
