Mia studied the woman, noting the light wrinkle between her eyes. “Your entire pack is searching for you?”
“Yes,” Luna said, her eyes blazing.
Erik chuckled. “Man, you are a terrible liar.”
Luna kicked him in the knee again as he easily kept her off the ground. “I am not. I’m an excellent liar.”
Actually, she was a truly terrible liar. Mia shook her head. “Luna, I apologize for what can only be considered a kidnapping. Erik will now drive you back to your home.”
Luna’s eyes narrowed. “You’re going to kill me, aren’t you?” She turned her head to face Erik so quickly her hair smacked him in the eyes.
He blinked and gently lowered her to the floor with one arm still wrapped around her waist. “No. Nobody is going to kill you. Man, what kind of world are you living in?”
Seth shrugged. “Years ago, we probably would’ve kept her.”
“Nobody’s keeping me.” Luna’s face turned bright red.
This was getting ridiculous. Mia moved to walk toward her, and Seth instantly put his body between them. “What are you doing?” Mia asked.
“She’s an angry shifter. You’re not,” he bit out. “Stay away from her.”
This was so silly. Mia leaned to the side to see beyond his large body. “Luna, I guarantee your safety. This has been a big mistake. These guys are morons.” She was starting to feel bad for the woman. Being kidnapped was never fun, and if Luna truly thought she was in danger, no wonder she kept kicking Erik. He deserved it. “If you have any suggestions or ideas for why I might not be feeling well, I would love it if you would share them with us. If not, I promise we’ll let you go.”
“We’re not going to let her go,” Erik countered.
Luna kicked him squarely in the ankle. His growl was frighteningly animalistic.
Seth turned. “Erik, hold it together.”
“I am holding it together,” Erik snapped. He pivoted and faced Luna directly, looking twice her size. “I told you not to kick me again.”
“What are you going to do, kill me?” Luna snapped.
“No, but I will turn you over my knee.” Erik didn’t look like he was kidding.
Mia moved to intervene, but Seth stopped her again.
“Enough.” She threw up her hands. “Luna, do you promise not to shift into a wolf and kill me within the next hour?”
Luna frowned, looked from Erik to Mia to Seth, and then returned her attention to Mia. “I will if you promise not to let these males kill me in the next hour.”
“Fair enough,” Mia said. “It’s a deal.” She leaned around Seth and held out a hand.
Luna reached out and shook it. “This is so weird,” she muttered.
Chapter10
Mia answered the young shifter’s questions for about fifteen minutes as they sat across the room from each other, with Seth at the doorway and Erik near the window. Luna was obviously doing her best but had no idea what to ask.
“Haven’t you dealt with live people?” Mia asked.
Luna rolled her eyes. “I haven’t dealt with humans, which I guess you’re not anymore.”
Mia’s stomach ached. “I have no idea what I am, except once again an FBI agent.” She was a mated human.
Luna sighed. “Obviously, something’s going on with you, and I can surmise that it might have something to do with you being impacted by silver before mating, per what your doctor said. But I would need to take blood to know more, I think. Maybe.”
Mia’s phone buzzed, and she lifted it to her ear. “Stone.”
