He strode inside her room and inhaled her vanilla and lilac scent before flicking on her bedside lamp. As gently as he could, he placed her on the bed and then straightened, noting an ache on the side of his back from the still-healing bullet wound. “Get some sleep, Mia. I’ll check on you in the morning.” The wolf inside him, the beast deep down, was rumbling for a fight, and he was going to find one somewhere.

She rolled her eyes, sliding her soft palms across his bare abs. “You’re naked, Volk. I think I might have to take advantage.”

Lightning zipped down his body and landed hard in his balls, but he kept his expression stoic, and his body as relaxed as possible. If he told her that he wasn’t interested, she wouldn’t believe him. The woman was too smart and knew him too well, even though they’d only been together for a short time.

If he told her that he had to get out of there because he was quickly losing control of himself, she’d take that as a challenge. He knew her, as well.

Instead, he just stood there. “Mia. It’s not a good idea.”

“Okay,” she whispered, her breath scalding-hot on his skin.

Surprise caught him unaware. Then, he relaxed. She leaned forward and pressed her dangerous mouth to his abs, licking along each ridge.

“Mia,” he warned, his blood firing in his veins.

“Uh-huh.” She bit his left hip bone, sinking her teeth in deep.

The beast inside him took over, and he lunged for her.

Chapter7

He was on her before she could blink, flattening her to the bed with his powerful body pinning her. Her breath caught, and heat blasted through her.

“You don’t want to play with me,” he murmured, his breath hot against her ear.

She shivered. “I believe I do.” There was no doubt the man needed to blow off some steam, and her body needed...him. Danger was coming for them. While Seth gave her a sense of security because he was the deadliest thing out there, she had to protect him, as well.

“A lesson can be taught,” he drawled, manacling her wrists and pulling her arms above her head. Her back arched, and her nipples hardened to points against his rock-hard chest.

“I doubt you’re up for it,” she challenged, her breath hitching. Her brain was quickly fuzzing as her body took over. If nothing else, she wanted his mind sharp and his emotions settled. While she was new to this, trusting somebody completely, she could help him center himself. It was terrifying and exhilarating that she needed him so badly—and she had to gain some control of herself. This was uncharted territory for her, and she needed to gather herself and figure out her life and what she wanted. Right now, there was only Seth Volk. Tomorrow, she’d make plans.

“I appreciate what you’re doing.” He licked down her neck to where he’d bitten and marked her, sending devastating zings of electricity to rock her core. “And I love a good challenge in the bedroom.” He shifted his weight slightly and ground his rock-hard erection against her covered sex. Then he lifted his head, and those unreal eyes glowed in the darkness, piercing her. “But you seem to think your life is yours to steer and that putting yourself in danger, and allowing any danger near you, is acceptable.” He nipped her collarbone hard enough that she jolted. “It. Is. Not.”

She swallowed and squirmed against him, wanting relief. The blood rushed through her head, ringing in her ears. “Fight tomorrow,” she gasped, struggling to free her hands. “Sex tonight.” Her arms remained above her head, her wrists firmly captured by one of his heated hands.

He leaned up again, pressing his lower body even tighter against hers. “No fighting, yes to sex tonight, and from now on, you obey.”

Her entire body jolted in reaction to the word, heating as her temper battled with desire. “You mated the wrong woman, Enforcer.” She was two seconds from manacling her legs around his bare thighs and twisting him to the floor. If she could.

“Alpha,” he corrected, wandering his mouth across her lips and making them tingle. “New job, new title, new responsibilities.” He kissed her then, hot and wet, devastating her and making her toes curl. “Be safe.”

“No,” she breathed when he released her mouth, even as she arched into him again.

“Wasn’t asking.” A sharp canine nicked her earlobe, and she shivered. “I am giving you the opportunity to chart your own path within my parameters. Briefly.”

Oh, that was it. She stilled and focused completely on the harsh angles of his face and his glittering blue eyes. “I’m about to get pissed off.”

“That’s unfortunate.” Somehow, he rolled to the side, yanked off her pants and panties, and was back on top of her before she could so much as twitch. Skin to skin, flesh to flesh, heat flared between them. His cock prodded at her sex, tempting her beyond what was normal. “The job in Seattle is off the table. With the FBI in my town, I can’t afford the protection detail I’d planned for you to be away from Lost Lake.”

Protection detail? She fought his hold in earnest...and still didn’t free her arms. “I was a trained agent.”

“Not against wolf shifters. Baby, there are wolves after us now.” He released his hold, and the second she started to lower her arms, he yanked her shirt and bra over her head and secured her wrists again.

“Seth,” she snapped, her body on fire for him, and her breasts swelling against his pecs. “I may just have to shoot you.”

His chuckle moved his nude body against hers and nearly threw her into an early orgasm. “Feel free. I’ve already recovered from being shot earlier today. You, mate, won’t recover as quickly. Until we figure out why, youwillstay safe.” Capturing her gaze, he slowly penetrated her.

She gulped. Her body was wet and ready for him, and the delicious friction had her biting back a moan. When he paused, just halfway inside her, she lifted both legs and clasped her ankles at his back. “If you stop, I swear on every god you believe in that I will shoot you. Right in the balls.” She meant every word.
