She gulped. “How?”
“Don’t know. But when they fired upon my car the other day, they were aiming for you. You’re a target because they know about us, and it’sa way to take me out.” He shook his head. “They didn’t even know it was mycar—just that you had a funeral and were in it.”
So, they’d tried to kill her. She swallowed. “How did theyfind me?”
“You haven’t been all that private with your different jobsand lives and funerals. While we don’t know how they found you, we know thatthey did. The soldier my grandfather is questioning is low level and won’t havemany more answers.”
She’d have to be more careful in the future. She lookedaround. While she’d flown private several times, she hadn’t seen a plane quitethis nice. It was obvious the Maxwell clan had resources she hadn’t quiterealized.
The interior was wide, with leather chairs on either side ofa rather spacious aisle. A large screen hung on the bulkhead. There was abedroom in the back, and the two pilots were shut away by a heavy oak door.
“Where are we going?” she asked, trying not to sound asirritated as she felt.
He hadn’t told her anything after loading her up in the carand then the plane.
“We’re headed to our family’s headquarters,” he murmured.
Her chin lowered. “And that would be where?”
“That will be something you’ll find out when we get there.”
She glared at him. “I can’t believe you don’t trust me afterall this time.”
A flash of surprise quickly crossed his face, only to beblanked almost immediately. “You shot me.” A threat of anger still rode hiswords. “Then you defied me and left the safety of the penthouse with mygrandmother.”
She winced. “Yeah, but I had to help Leah. Besides, you’reimmortal, so shooting you doesn’t really count.”
In addition, now that they had finally mated completely, hecould obviously heal himself much faster than he had before.
Her wounds were also healing quicker, which would probablybe handy if she continued screwing up ops like she just had. “Athan, we’regoing to have to get a couple of things straight.”
“Oh, baby,” he murmured, “believe me, we are going to get acouple of things straight.” His voice was a low grumble. “We’re mated. Thingschanged.”
Irritation clawed at her. “So, you thought we’d mate, andI’d just fall in line? Have freedom for years and...what? Say, ‘thanks?’”
He cocked his head. “Something like that. Now, come here.”
Not a chance. Not in a million years. She swallowed andwondered how close they were to the ground. Was it possible they weredescending? “No.”
One of his dark eyebrows rose, giving him the look of a hungrypredator. “You don’t want me to tell you again.”
True. Very true. She didn’t want to hear another word fromhim. But she couldn’t stay there and win a staring contest, so she bunched hermuscles and leaped up, aiming for the bedroom.
She didn’t make it.

Athan snagged her around the waist and took her to the plushcarpet. She landed beneath him, and he stretched out, grasping her wrists andholding them over her head. She struggled against him and then laughed, thesound free and wild.
God. He loved her laugh. Desire filtered through her eyes, and a blush covered her Irish rose face. Still, she struggled.
He had to admire that. “No putting yourself in danger,” hesaid, leaning down and kissing her. Hard.
She kissed him back and lifted her legs, settling her kneesagainst his flanks and allowing her small body to cradle his erect cock. “Ididn’t put myself in danger. The danger came with you.”
She wasn’t wrong. Danger did come with him, but now, so didshe. He kissed her again, letting his body take over.
Her fingers curled over his hands, and she dug her nailsinto his skin.
