Electricity arced through my entire body. I tilted my head on the pillow to allow his mouth better access, which he quickly took advantage of to place kisses down the side of my neck. “You know that will never happen.”
“Your loss.” His hand moved along with his mouth, and he slid beneath my plain white panties. “Now’s the time you kick me out or keep me for the morning.” His voice was rough with a hint of hoarse. Deep and rumbly.
I shut my eyes as his fingers unerringly found the right spot. Electricity careened through me and my entire body started to burn for him. “If I keep you, I’m just using you for your body.”
“I can live with that.” He pulled me onto my back and then kissed me, his mouth as talented as his fingers. In fact, his entire body was talented, and he knew how to use it. More importantly, he knew exactly what to do with mine.
After too many years to count dreaming about him, the reality of touching him was so much better. He was hard everywhere, and I liked that I could slide my hands down his flanks and make him suck in a breath. Somehow, Aiden made me feel both powerful and feminine.
Then he traveled south, kissing between my breasts and paying each enough attention that I was almost begging for more, before heading even farther down.
“I could do this all day,” he murmured right before his mouth found my clit.
My agreement might’ve been a little loud.
The first orgasm took me hard, the second long, and the third with a power that made me whimper. Then, and only then, did he find a condom and let loose inside me, on his knees with his arm around my waist and lifting me to him.
He was powerful, masculine, and at the moment…all mine.
I cried out his name this time, completely spent.
So when we moved to the shower for one last round, my brain was mush but my body ready for him once again. Finally, I stumbled out of the shower and tried to find clean towels.
Oh, I was going to be so late for work, but really, who cared? It was difficult to stress out after multiple orgasms. I dressed in gray slacks with a white frilly shirt, acutely aware of slightly sore spots on my body in inappropriate places. Razor burn from his angled jaw covered my thighs, which explained the pants and not a skirt. That would drive me nuts all day in a skirt.
Aiden dressed in one of his black T-shirts and a pair of jeans from his drawer, finger combing his hair back with one broad hand that was still bruised. “I’ll make coffee while you finish up.” He paused and then leaned over to kiss me, his lips firm and lingering before he wandered toward the kitchen.
He might as well just take my heart with him. This was too hard, but I didn’t know how to stop. I didn’t want to stop, to be more accurate. “Tell me you’re not doing anything illegal,” I whispered as he reached my doorway.
“I’m not doing anything that’s against the law.” He didn’t turn around to face me, and he didn’t move. “Trust me, Angel. That’s all I can tell you.” Then he was out of sight.
If he was lying, he was good at it. Or maybe I just wanted to believe him. Yeah. I definitely wanted to believe him. That either made me a moron or somebody who should learn to trust her own instincts. I wish I could say which one was true, and it seemed only time would tell. Time and proof.
I finished with my hair and met him in the kitchen where he waited with a mug of coffee for me. Aiden looked just right in the morning light in my kitchen. “Thanks.”
He glanced outside at the sparkling and still quiet lake. “Do you want to grab dinner tonight?”
My heart jolted. “Are you asking me on a date?” I tried for casual and teasing, but my stomach was flipping summersaults.
“Yeah.” He tucked one thumb in his jeans pocket in a cute tough-guy move that I’d only seen in movies. “Whoever is after me knows I was on the way here, so it seems dumb to try and keep you at arm’s length.” He rolled his neck. “I don’t want to stay away from you. All right?” Now he sounded defensive and totally adorable.
“All right,” I said softly. “However, considering you’re still a suspect in a homicide and I’m a prosecuting attorney, how about we have date night here? You can cook dinner.”
He cocked his head to the side, and his eyes warmed. “I’llgrilldinner. Deal?”
“Deal.” I couldn’t wait to tell Tessa about this, but I kept it cool. Or at least, I tried to keep cool. “If we’re dating, we can’t have so much of a wall between us. It doesn’t work for me, and it shouldn’t work for you. Why were you in Tessa’s apartment standing over a dead body?”
Aiden shook his head. “This is such a mistake.” He downed the rest of his coffee. “I was with Danny because we were going to grab a drink and catch up. We were the same age in school and hung out a little bit years ago. He had to drop something off at his girlfriend’s place, and I didn’t even know it was Tessa’s apartment. He went inside, I waited in my truck, and then I got tired of waiting and headed up to see the door open and him dead on the ground with the gun next to him. The shot had obviously been muffled by using that pillow that was by his head.”
My mouth dropped open. “So you went inside?”
“Yeah. I heard movement and got inside just in time to see somebody jump out the window toward the fire escape. I moved toward them, Tessa came in and grabbed the gun, and then all hell broke loose.”
I gulped. “Who was it?”
“I didn’t see anything but movement and maybe dark clothing.” Frustration coated his words now. “I also have no clue what Danny was dropping off. He might’ve just wanted an excuse to see her, and from what you’ve said, she wasn’t really his girlfriend.”
“Why didn’t you tell the police any of this?” I asked.
