Oh, damn. I didn’t even think of that. It probably looks really weird that she’s not here.
“She had to work,” I say. Blake nods like he understands.
Me: You should come to my hockey games.
Poppy: No, that’s okay.
Me: You need to, Poppy
Poppy: Why exactly do I need to?
Me: Because we’re dating. My teammates’ girlfriends come to our home games. How will people buy us as a couple if you don’t come to your boyfriend’s hockey games?
Poppy: That’s a good point. Okay, I’ll come.
I grin. I know it’s just for show, but part of me is excited that she’s going to come see me play.
Poppy: I can’t come to all your games, though. My schedule gets really busy.
Me: That’s okay. Just come when you can.
Poppy: When is your next home game?
Me: Saturday
Poppy: Okay, I’ll come.
Me: *celebration emoji*
Me: You’d better be on your feet, jumping up and down, screaming your ass off for me, hot tutor.
Poppy: No way. I’ll look like a maniac.
Me: Exactly. If you were really my girlfriend, you’d go nuts watching me on the ice, scoring goals for you. It would get you so hot.
Poppy: *eye roll emoji*
Poppy: Never. I’m going to sit quietly and not make a sound
Me: We’ll see about that ;)
Chapter 16
Poppy
Igaze out onto the ice, watching the Hollis U men’s hockey team take on the California State Bears.
I shiver and zip up my jacket.
“Cold?” Anna asks while sitting next to me.
“A little.”
“Here.” She offers me her scarf. I wrap it around my neck and smile at her. “Thanks. You’re a lifesaver.”
She just laughs. “You’ve got a lot to learn, hockey girlfriend.”
Never in a million years did I think I’d be sitting in the stands, watching Nick St. George play hockey while pretending to be his girlfriend.
