"You know I really will take this and spend your money, right? Like, if this is some kind of a test to see if I'll be like,oh, no, I can't do that—I don't want your money, Dax,I won't pass it."

"It's not a test or a trick."

"I have no ethical issues with taking your money after sleeping with you. It doesn't bother me at all."

I smile a little. "I'm aware your morals are a little loose, Ripley. After all, I did watch you kill a man and throw him off a cliff."

She scowls, but snatches the card from my hand.

"Too soon?" I ask.

"Yeah, Dax, it's too fucking soon."

She turns, heading in the other direction.

"Hey, wait."

"Sorry, no take-backs."

"Take my car, too."

She whips her head around. "You're joking. I'm not even a good driver."

I toss her the keys, and she catches them with her free hand. "Eh, shit happens. I'm sure you'll try your best. Just don't puke on it again. Garage code is 1209."

I don't want to have to worry about her in the parking garage.

"Are you kidding? That's my birthday."

"Huh…is it, really?" Elias set the garage code. "What anoddcoincidence."

She rolls her eyes and heads for the garage. "Do me a favor and stay in densely populated areas. Don't park in any garages."

"Yeah, fine."

"See you later, baby."

She ignores me, but that's okay. Satisfied that I was able to reel her back in, I head inside to deal with Elias, who's sitting on the couch drinking a beer.

"Don't you have class?" I ask.

"Yeah, so?"

I shrug, throwing myself into the recliner opposite him. "Did you know our garage door code is Saige's birthday?"

Elias scoffs. "Why the fuck would I know when Saige's birthday is? Anyway, Nolan set up the garage code."

No, he didn't.

"You know, you really shouldn't coddle her. You're only encouraging her littlemeltdowns."

"Um, I whole-heartedly disagree with you. I think she needs more coddling."

"You don't know her like I do. And she's a murderer."

"She's about to break, Elias."

"Good. That's what I want."
