“Back there… seems that it is gone somehow… We are not waiting anymore, right? Not for anything...”

Damian shook his head. “No. We’re not.”

“Then there’s just us. This life.”

Damian watched his eyes well up, that slight tremor of his lips, so he got up and walked to him, kneeling down to meet his eyes. He took Gabe’s hands. “That’s right.” A sudden idea in him, seeing Gabe’s distress. His lips curled up. “You know what? Let’s get married.”

Gabe’s lips parted in shock. “What…?”

“Yes. Married.”

“But… how? There’s nothing here…”

“There’s us. This is our island. We do whatever the fuck we want, right?” Searching his eyes. “I want to marry you, Gabriel. Because I love you, and I will only love you in this life. Until death do us part?”

Gabe’s lips trembled, crushing Damian’s hands. Tears rushed down his cheeks as his hazel eyes went to him. “You… you’re serious?”

“Dead serious… ok, this came out wrong…” He grinned, then kissed Gabe’s hands. “I am serious. Be my husband?” Nibbling his knuckles as his eyes played. “Please?”

Gabe sobbed and latched onto his neck, pulling him close into a wide kiss.

Damian stroked his soaked cheeks, smiling. “I guess that’s a ‘yes’. Tomorrow on the beach, then.”

Gabe’s face fell. “Tomorrow?”

“Yes. Why wait?” He pulled Gabe close, letting him cry in his hair.

Next morning, Damian had gotten up with the sun, leaving Gabe asleep. Walking into the jungle, he gathered as many flowers as he could from vines, bushes, and clearings, filling a large bag. Back home, he weaved two wreaths out of all those flowers, smiling to himself whilst he baked some bananas on the flames. Walter had laid down next to him, snoring against his leg. He laid the wreaths aside and scratched the spot behind the pigs’ ear, smiling at his small squeals and snorts.

“Such a whore.” The pig just grunted and wedged his head closer to Damian’s leg. “More, huh? Insatiable beast.” But he kept scratching him, baking breakfast.

His eyes gliding to Gabe, climbing down, his hair a mess. “Had a good sleep?”

“Why are you up so early?” He scratched the back of his head, yawning.

“I made breakfast on the big day.” He winked at Gabe’s wide eyes.

“Ah… ok…”

“Having second thoughts?”

“What…? No…”

“Good.” He smiled and piled some bananas on a plate, spilling some golden honey on them. “Here. A special treat. So you have your sugar-high as the new bride.”

“Thanks…” He smiled though and moaned at those bananas melting in his mouth, that sweet honey running down his throat, warm, thick. “Mhm… too good…”

Damian cleared the plates when they had eaten and pulled him up. “To the beach. Let’s get married.”

Gabe’s heart raced, and Damian turned to him, placing a flowery wreath on his head. “Beautiful…” Smoothing his hair back, grazing his shoulders.

Gabe’s eyes welled up. “You made this?”

“And this…” He handed Gabe another one, and he placed it on Damian’s head.

“Wow…”

“Like it? Let’s go. I can hardly wait to be your husband.” Damian winked and took his hand, grabbing a bottle of water on the way.
