Chapter 10

Time to Chase

Prince Walker

Isat in the back of my limo with Jane. I was too deep in my thoughts and oblivious to my secretary’s attempts at making small talk. Jane reached for another glass of champagne. She was surprised I had agreed to go to Andy’s charity gala; I wasn’t interested in philanthropy. My head was stuck too far up my ass to care about anyone but myself. I heard her toast quietly and down it in one gulp, readying herself for a long night of being ignored.

We pulled up in front of the house of my best friend, Andy Geller. The valet opened the door, and I got out first, extending my arm to Jane as she climbed out to stand beside me. I’d made an effort to compliment her dress, and she gave me a woozy smile. Realizing she’d had one glass too many, she excused herself to find the bathroom. I watched her as she climbed the stairs up to the house slowly, hiking the dress up so it wouldn’t hook around her feet. She had on a white dress; studded with faux diamonds and slightly see-through, it clung to her figure, outlining her shapely curves. I would have had my cock inside her if she was not working for me. But I’d never involved myself in messy office affairs like some of my idiotic friends. They’d always ended up in bad lawsuits, worsened their companies’ reputations and effected their companies’ shares.God, I am becoming like Dad.

I knew I made heads turn with my presence; dressed in a black tuxedo, I went into the dinner hall to find my friend. I stopped now and then to greet a few familiar faces—some of my father’s crowd were present. They asked after my parents and I’d promised to pass on their regards.

I found Andy in the hallway, talking with a woman in a black dress. She looked good for her age, but had too much make-up on, and was talking way too loudly, trying to gain attention from everyone. A beauty who I guessed was her daughter stood by her side, looking disinterested in the conversation. She had on red, backless dress, her face pale and lovely under the bright lights of the corridor. I grabbed a glass of wine off the tray of a passing steward and leaned against the wall in wait. When Andy was done with them, he walked over to me and, seeing the look on my face, he led me into his study to talk.

Before I went, I gave her a one last look.

Angelique Delavigne

“Do you know who that was?” Sophia asked her daughter in a whisper, blinking her eyes in a flurry of excitement.

“I didn’t get a good look at him, but I’m guessing he is someone rich. You look as though you’ve sighted a huge trout.” Angelique was ready to go home, already bored to death with the gala. Her feet were growing sore in her heels. “Can we leave soon?”

“Of course not, that’s Prince Walker. We have to introduce you to him. I didn’t expect him to be here because he never comes to these things. There he is now. Am I dreaming, or is he walking towards us?”

“What about Dmitri? Remember him? The one who bought this two thousand-dollar dress I have on and the jewelry?” Earlier that night, while they were getting their hair done, Angelique had opened the bag to pull out her dress and found the red sequined dress underneath. There was a box with emerald earrings to go with it. She knew Dmitri must have seen her checking the dress out, and arranged with the store to buy it for her.

“What about him? He still hasn’t called, has he?”

“No,” Angelique replied sadly. The gesture had made her eager for his call, but it still hadn’t come. Maybe he had decided not to pursue a long distance affair.

Angelique saw Prince Walker coming out of a room, his eyes trained on her. But a lady dressed in white caught up with him and he must have said something that upset her, because she nodded quietly and walked off into the gala hall. Angelique watched the exchange as her mother chattered on by her side; she could see why Prince Walker was New York’s finest.

“He’s so hot. The tabloids don’t do him justice,” her mom commented breathlessly; her cheeks were turning red in unbelief.

Prince Walker

“Good evening, ma’am.” I took her hand and kissed it, forcing her to blush even harder. “My name is Prince Walker. I was wondering if I could steal your sister for a bit.”

The woman chuckled like a little girl, flattered by my lame, witty joke.

“What a polite young man. She’s actually my daughter; I’ll leave you both to it.” She gave her daughter a look that said, don’t mess this up, and went in to the hall.

“I saw what you did there,” Angelique said, unimpressed by my little show. “What do you want?”

Over the speakers, the master of ceremonies announced that I had made a five million dollar donation, the current largest for the night.

“You know who I am?” I asked quietly, angry that she was making me explain myself. Nearly all the ladies present would have killed for the chance to be noticed by me this evening, and yet I’d wanted the most uninterested one. It was thrilling for me.She will fall for me hard, like all the rest of the women.

“Prince Walker, is there something you wanted? I’d like to be join my mom soon, I’m missing the best part of the evening.”

“Alright,” I said, realizing she was playing hard to get. “I’ll let you go back to the gala if you promise to go out with me,” I insisted.

“What about your girlfriend?” she asked. When she saw my face crease in confusion, she tried to explain. “The lady in the white dress. I saw you talking to her.”

“Oh no, that’s my personal assistant, Jane. She’s just my date for the evening, we aren’t together.” I wasn’t sure why I’d needed to explain this to her. She made me do stupid things.
