“Yeah?”

“Who will I be working for?” I guess I should have asked that from the start, but this is the strangest interview I’ve ever had.

“Samuel Foster. He’s a man of considerable wealth and influence, so your discretion is vital. I’ll send you his contact details so you can update him on Munchkin while he’s away. He’s not a tolerant man, so please don’t let me down.”

“You can count on me,” I assure him.Samuel Foster?I’ve never heard of the man. But I don’t say anything to Cory. It’s not like I hang around in the upper echelons of society anyhow. “Thank you,” I say before hanging up the phone.

I sit back in my chair and take a deep breath. And then it dawns on me that we didn’t discuss money. I have no idea how much Cory believes my services are worth. I might end up doing this for free. Maybe he thinks I’m just some crazy lady who likes to hang out with cats. But I’m not sure how to broach the subject. Just then, my phone pings with a message. It’s a pin to Mr. Foster’s house, about twenty minutes away. There’s a short text with it.

Hi Arielle, thanks again for taking the job. I’ll leave a check for you with the instructions.

Well, at least I won’t be working for free.

I respond.

Great, thanks. And don’t worry – Munchkin and I will have a great time.
