“Erica quit stalling,” I said. “Just tell me.”
“I…” she stammered. “Well, I…”
I raised an eyebrow and she quickly said, “I created a profile for you on a new dating app!”
“What?” I snapped.
“Don’t be angry! I created a profile for you, and it matched you with Kyle. I thought about telling you, but then I thought that I should make sure he isn’t some weirdo, so I started talking to him, pretending to be you. And…well, he seemed like such a nice guy and—”
“You have been talking to this man and pretending to be me?” I gasped out.
“I am sorry! I really am!” Erica said, looking sad. “Please, forgive me.”
“I…” I felt so confused. “It’s alright, don’t worry, Erica.”
“Look, I talked to him and he’s very nice! Just give him a chance; maybe you will actually like him,” Erica said softly.
I sighed and looked at my friend. I knew whatever she did, she did because she cared about me. I trusted her, and if my going on a date would make her worry less, I was willing to do it.
“Alright, but if he turns out to be a creep, I am going to leave!” I said.
“Of course!” Erica said, beaming. “Thank you!”
I sighed and shook my head, wondering what disaster awaited me.
