“What about Davis?” I ask. “You get anything on him and his new girl?”

That’s the information I’m most eager for. Exposing the fucker in all his cheating glory.

“Couldn’t find anything on the woman he’s having an affair with. He kept that shit tight. I even checked his phone records, but there’s nothing incriminating. So, he’s either got a second line or was using a burner to communicate with her. But I did get something for you. Two days ago, he bought a five-carat diamond ring from a jeweler in town, so it looks like he’ll be proposing soon.”

Well, isn’t that interesting. Five carats? Looks like big bro is really into this woman. Kara’s ring isn’t even half that size. My brother’s love language is money. So, the more he spends, the more he cares. He must care a damn lot.

“That’s real interesting. Looks like big bro is sparing no expense. I’m gonna get one of the prospects to follow his ass and see what we come up with.” There’s no way I’m going to let Davis have his happy ending. He stole my wife, so I’m going to steal every bit of good that he has in his life.

“I already put Cage on it. Hoping we’ll get what we need before the big gala.”

Me too. It will be fun bringing it all to light in front of the people who have praised Davis all his life. My parents. Their friends. Kara. I want them all to see Davis for who he truly is.

“By the way, I got the tickets for the event. Got your girl one, too, in case you wanted her there. I can’t fucking wait to see thelook on that fucker’s face. Still wish you would’ve let me take him out.”

The minute I told him what all had gone down, the man was ready to go and kill Davis. All of my brothers were ready to take his ass out. But I wanted to be the one to deliver retribution. Now, I finally have the chance of hitting him where it will actually hurt. Ripping his reputation and his woman away from him all at once.

“Taking him out would’ve been too easy. I want to watch him suffer.” Day after day, I want to watch him sink into a hole, trying to fight his way out of it. But I won’t let him up for air. I’m going to suffocate him of his happiness for the rest of his life.

“Amen to that, brother.”

“Appreciate you doing this for me, man. You find anything else, you let me know.”

“Will do. You know I live for this shit.”

I know he does. The mastermind of destruction.

“Thanks, Bones. I’ll talk to you later.”

I open the door to find my girl curled up on her bed. Her little glasses perched on her nose, face scrunched in concentration. She’s so damn cute. I think it might be time for her to take a study break.

“You know I can feel you watching me.” Her eyes look over those black rims. My sexy little librarian.

“Can’t help it. Never seen such a pretty sight in all my life.”

“Who were you talking to on the phone?”

“That was Bones.” I slide in next to her, taking the book from her hands and setting it on the nightstand. “Need to ask you a question, babe.”

I hadn’t thought about asking Izzy to the event because I didn’t want to drag her into the storm, but I would love to see the look on Kara’s face when she sees that I’ve moved on with a much younger little hottie. That will burn her up. The womangets Botox to smooth her wrinkles and has to die her grays blonde. But my Izz still has all her youthful beauty. And all the energy to keep up with my sex drive.

“What’s that?” She scoots in closer, wrapping her arms around me.

“My dad is going to be running for governor and has a big event coming up in honor of kicking off his political campaign. I was wondering if you wanted to come with me to it?”

“You’re going?” She doesn’t look happy about the notion.

“The press is going to be there. It’s the perfect platform to highlight exactly who that man is.”

“So, it’s a takedown mission?” She raises a brow while sounding excited.

You could definitely call it that. My father is never going to have a political career or any career by the time we’re done with him. He fucked with the wrong man and the wrong club.

“We’re going to serve him the justice he deserves.”

“Then yes. I definitely want to be there.”

She just made my heart thud in my chest. One day, I’m going to put a ring on her finger and make her Mrs. Xander Williams. Smartest thing I ever did was getting my name changed. Now, she’ll never have to be attached to the corruption that is associated with the Zegman name.
