“Are you fucking serious?” I look toward King who just filled me in on all I missed since I’ve been gone. A shitstorm is right. And judging by the way his hair is standing up, it looks like he’s about to lose his mind.

“Wish I was makin’ this shit up, but it’s facts. Now, let’s get to our latest problem. The one concerning your dad.”

My jaw clenches. I might squeeze the life out of the man this time.

“We got word from the Sheriff that your father stormed into his office demanding they deal with us and arrest our asses. Of course, Gatley told him there were no grounds for an arrest, which didn’t sit well with your dear old dad. Now, it looks as if he’s trying a different angle. He’s campaigning to be the fucking governor.” He’s looking for power any which way he can. “He’s having a big kickoff gala at the country club in a few weeks to raise the money he needs for his campaign.”

Well, ain’t that the shit. Daddy dearest wants to be a politician. Instead of backing down, he decided to declare war. I used to think he was a smart man, but it turns out I didn’t get my brains from him. He’s about to lose everything he has and be decimated on the battlefield.

“Looks like we need to get some tickets for that party,” I tell him.

“Already got Bones working on it. We’re also sweeping your dad’s computer along with all his accounts to see if we can get anything on him. If there’s anything you know, let Bones in on it so he can follow the lead. If we don’t find anything, we’ll have to use brute force.”

“Just as long as I can be the one to do it.”

I want my dad to know it’s me who took him down.

“It’s your lead on this. You call the shots. In the meantime, you want to tell me what’s going on with you and that girl out there.” His brow cocks along with that upper lip of his.

What’s going on is I’m falling hard for that pretty little angel.

“If I get my way, I’ll be making my official claim. First, I have to deal with that ex of hers. He’s a persistent motherfucker who doesn’t seem to understand the wordno.”

“Yeah, well, if you need us to handle him, just say the word. Ain’t no one gonna mess with an old lady.”

Damn, I love the sound of that. I need to get her a leather jacket that saysRogue’s Property.

“Appreciate it, man.” I’m gonna go talk to Bones when we’re done here, so I can get an address on this fucker. “So, how are you handling the new development with your daughter?”

“I almost put a bullet in his head, but that daughter of mine would never speak to me again if I did.”

I try not to smirk. At some point, he had to figure she’d fall in love.

“And what about that girl who seemed to catch your eye out east? The one I caught you in bed with.” Haven’t seen him with anyone in years, which means there was something that intrigued him about the girl. Found her in the room with him the night Link and I took off. I’d rather not have the image burned into memory, but it was good to see him letting loose.

“That girl is trouble.” He shakes his head. And yet, he’s got a look in his eyes that says she may be worth that trouble. “Let me know what you decide on your dad. We’ll discuss the plan at church next week.”

And that’s him putting an end to the conversation. It’s a damn curious reaction. Leads me to believe he hitchhiked some feelings for the girl while he was taking her for a ride.

“Will do.” I tip my head.

Before I go in search of my girl, I need to talk to Bones. Izzy’s somewhere in this joint with Shayna, and as soon as I’m done handling my business, I’m taking her to my room. Need that mouth of hers wrapped around my dick again. The girl blew my fucking mind. She made me realize I was missing out when I was with Kara. Turns out my ex was a shit lay.

“You got a minute?” I knock on Bones’ open door before entering. Not surprised to find him sitting behind his fortress of computer screens. The guy is a genius, even though you’d never guess it by the looks of him.

“Did Prez fill you in?” He lifts his head from his screen.

“Yep. Said you’re scouring my dad’s shit to find some dirt on him. Make sure you look closely at his tee times. The men he plays golf with are the people he does favors for.” I’d overheard a conversation a time or two back in the day and remember thinking shit didn’t smell right. My father would go golfing with one of the men at the club, and the next thing I knew we were being gifted a trip on a yacht or spending our Christmas up at some mansion in Jackson Hole, getting special perks as a showof gratitude for whatever favor my father granted. “By the way, can you also get me an address on an Alex Baker? He’s a surgeon at Krenshaw Hospital. Works in the ER.”

“Does this have to do with that pretty girl you brought home with you?”

“It’s her ex.”
