“Exactly what I thought,” I state. “So then why are you still sitting here?”

He reaches into his pocket and pulls out his phone. My guess is he’s calling his girl. While he handles his business, I turn to search out Bones and give him the all clear, but he’s momentarily distracted. He’s got some sweetbutt trying to crawl up his ass. The girl better walk away if she knows what’s good for her. That man has a singular taste. There’s only one girl he’s ever been interested in. Obsessed with is more like it. And she just so happens to be our governor’s daughter.

“Rogue!” Link snaps, and my head whips back around to him. “I need you to tell King that I had to get back. It’s a fucking emergency.”

“I’m riding with you,” I tell him.

There’s no fucking way I’m going to let him go by himself with that look in his eyes. He’s liable to crash himself out on the highway.

“God, why won’t he just leave me alone?” My phone buzzes for the millionth time. I pick the thing up and block another number.

“Is that the doctor again?” Shay sits up, her eyes all red and swollen. I hate seeing her so sad. She’s always been so strong. For as long as I’ve known her, she’s been as tough as nails, but she hasn’t stopped crying since she got here.

“I don’t understand how he can change his number so fast.”

“He’s probably using one of those apps that generates new phone numbers.” She holds her hand out. “Let me see if I can figure out a way to block all unknown numbers.”

Right as she starts messing with my phone, it starts dinging with texts again. One after another after another, and her eyes keep growing larger and larger and larger. I don’t even want to know what they say. If they’re anything like the others he’s sent, I just want her to delete them. I’m tired of hearing how much heloves me and how sorry he is. He keeps telling me I’m the only one he’s ever been in love with. It’s not just annoying, but it’s getting weird.

“Um…I think you should file a restraining order.”

“It’s that bad?”

She hands my phone back, nodding.

Unknown Number: Why won’t you answer my calls? I need to talk to you, Izabelle. I told you I’m not in love with her anymore. You need to believe me.

Unknown Number: You know how good it is between us. It’s never been like that with anyone else. And don’t pretend like you don’t need me. I know how desperate you are for my dick. I still have every single text message you’ve ever sent. All the times you begged your doctor to prescribe a remedy for your ache. God, I still think about that first time I examined you.

I think about that too, and how he manipulated his way into my pants on our very first date. As soon as he showed up at my door, I told him that I have a rule about not having sex on a first date, but he found a loophole, didn’t he. We were sitting there talking when he asked how long it’d been since I’d seen a doctor. When I told him it had been years, he acted all concerned, saying I needed to have an annual checkup. Then he offered to examine me himself to save me the trouble of finding myself a doctor.

One thing led to another, and he was getting to second base giving me a breast exam. Then before I knew it, those thick digits were checking between my legs to make sure everything was working properly, and I fell right into his trap, breaking my rule. I was naïve and completely enraptured. But now, it pisses me off to know that he didn’t respect my boundaries and used my body against me. It’s what he’s trying to do now. The only thing is my body doesn’t stir for him anymore. The only feelings I have in my belly are dread.

Unknown Number: I’m coming over and if you don’t let me in, I’m going to break that door down and remind that little pussy how hard she likes to be fucked. You better be ready to open up those legs, Izabelle, because I’m done with these games. Daddy’s going to punish his little girl.

Maybe Shay is right. Maybe a restraining order will finally get him to leave me alone. “But I don’t want to ruin his career,” I say my thought out loud. He’s a doctor and this would go on his record. I’m pretty sure the hospital would find out, and then he may lose his medical license or something. “Besides, what would I even say? My ex is sending me texts saying he wants to have sex with me?”

They’ve got more important things to deal with than my breakup.

“He’s threatening to break down your door, Izz.”

He did say that, but I don’t think he would actually hurt me.

“Do you think I should call his wife or send her screenshots of these texts?”

“No!” she practically shouts. “The last thing you need is a jealous, crazy soon-to-be ex harassing you too.”

She has a point. That bitch would come at me with those razor-sharp claws of hers and probably try to scratch my eyes out. The woman has a right to hate me though. I slept with her husband.

“Then what can I do to get him to stop?”

“Tell him you’ll file a restraining order if he doesn’t stop. Or…” Her lips twist into a wicked smirk. “You can tell him you’ve moved on and are seeing someone else.”

That’s not a bad idea. Maybe one of the guys from work can pretend to be my boyfriend the next time Alex comes in. I’ll even pay them to make it look real.
