Rory growls. “I promise nothing will happen to them right now.”
My eyes flit suspiciously to his and then Vale’s.
“But,” he says, waiting until I look at him. “If they smell you, they are going to want to touch you, and if they touch you, I’m killing everyone.”
“You guys can’t just threaten to kill everyone.”
“Who said it was a threat? It’s a fucking promise. Now go. Kota is waiting at the spring for you.”
I step back.
“Bonnie!” Nathan snarls.
“Where the fuck is this bitch?” Rojer asks.
I turn and quietly make my way back the way I came.
Sounds stop me. Rory moaning. I listen to them fucking. So fucking loud. I want to go back and watch.
“Oh, for fuck’s sake, what are you two doing?” Rojer shouts!
“Fucking, now fuck off!” Vale snarls.
The warning in the alpha’s tone spreads through the forest, turning it still and deadly.
I turn and keep walking, trusting them to keep their word.
Kota is sitting by the water waiting for me.
“Hello, beautiful omega.”
His nostrils flare, but the relaxed and easy tension doesn’t change.
“Vale and Rory said I need to wash,” I say as I shift my weight.
“Oh, you do. You smell like a knotted omega. That scent alone will drive every alpha in the vicinity to a killing rage to have you.”
“Except you?” I snarl, frustrated.
“Oh, no, especially me. I would happily set fire to the world to keep you.”
My knees get weak.
“You can’t say things like that to me,” I murmur.
“Why?”
“Because it’s not fair. How am I supposed to keep distance up when I want to throw myself at you?”
Kota touches a finger to my chin, lifting it. He touches his lips to mine.
It’s the most gentle and sweetest kiss I’ve ever had. I can see a future with these alphas. I can see a perfect, picturesque forever with them.
I stumble back, my heart pounding.
Because I don’t believe in forever.
No, that died the last time I put my heart on the line.
