“How exactly did they get stung by the bees, in your own words?” He snaps out, “Omega, keep your distance.”
“Distance is overrated,” Pix purrs.
“They walked around the back to the stalls, and I don’t know, I wasn’t there. I was calling for the cars.”
“Why didn’t you hear their screams?”
I scowl. “They had been quite angry and loud for most of the trip. They were very unhappy with me because I was, in their words, ‘omega filth’. I kind of tuned them out. To be honest, I assumed we were back and safe. I mean, what could have happened?”
“Tell him the truth, Bonnie.”
I look at Meg. She sighs heavily.
“Meg!” I hiss. “It’s none of his business.”
He looks between us, his eyes darting, and takes a step forward. “On the contrary, any information would help.”
“Fine. I was telling the Prince pack that I would not be their omega. This was the end. That it didn’t matter how much history we had, they rejected me. I didn’t hear anything because I was tearing my heart out of my chest and calling my dad for a pickup.”
He blinks. “They are your mates?”
“Well, yes, but it’s complicated.”
The detective scowls. “And what about Alpha Ellory?”
I blink at him. “Simon? He came out on the most recent trip, not the one with the three who tragically died. He had a great time and went home, happy and healthy and without bees.”
“I’ve heard bee venom is really good for your face,” Meg says lightly.
“You are not funny!” The detective snaps at Meg. “People died!”
“But you are incredibly hot when you are mad, Alpha. If I were your omega, I would get you mad as often as I could,” Pix interjects smoothly before Meg can blow up. The alpha forgets all about Meg and stares down at where Pix is stroking his arm.
Detective Roseland lets out a frustrated growl and pulls Pix’s hand off him. “Keep your hands off me, Omega.”
Meg and I exchange raised eyebrows. I don’t know what is going on, but the tension between the two of them is incredible.
I’ve never seen anyone react with so much tension to Pix’s teasing charm.
The omega lifts his ring-laden finger, but the alpha catches his wrist. They lock eyes, staring, glaring at each other, before Pix slowly and deliberately licks his lips.
The alpha snarls. A sound of pure malice that only has Pix leaning in closer.
“Um, hot.” Meg pants.
“I know, right,” I whisper back.
“Simon Ellory is dead,” the detective says, watching me.
“What?” I ask, feigning shock. “But how? What happened?”
“It looks like he ingested a plant that was quite toxic and died later at home.” There is a heavy silence where I look around, baffled, then suddenly make the connection.
I scowl at the detective. “Are you implying that I gave him poisonous plants to eat? And that I clearly drove a mad swarm of bees to attack those alphas? Is that what you are here for?” I say coldly. “Do you think I am a witch or that I have god-like powers? I can assure you, I still put my underwear on one leg then the other every fucking morning, Detective.”
Meg threads her arm through mine as we advance on the alpha. “You know, personally, I go commando,” she says and winks at the alpha.
“Oh, he’s not saying that, darling,” Pix purrs. “He’s just crossing his t’s and dotting his I’s, aren’t you, Officer Tall, Dark, and Handsome?”
