“That would explain why I’m obsessed with you,” he said, smiling warmly. Her heart constricted.

“You are?”

Adam nodded.“Well, I couldn’t stop thinking about you even after you’d stolen from me, and though I’d convinced myself it was about the theft, it really was something else.”He shrugged.“When I kissed you the first time—or rather the first time I remember—it was as if the gray world had suddenly turned bright. As if the sounds, sights, and smells had all become more vibrant.”Adam brushed his lips across the back of her hand, sending goose bumps racing across her flesh.“Now I understand why.”

“But I have to kill you,” she cried.

“I know,” he replied calmly.“It’s either me or your sister, isn’t it?”

“Yes.”

“I understand.”

“You do?”She shook her head.“I don’t.I can’t.I—” she rambled.

“If I had siblings, I’d choose them over a man I’d just met too.”

Tears rolled down her face, hot and silent.

“I can’t,” she murmured.

“You have to.”

“Adam—”

He grasped her chin, tilting her face to look at him.

“It’ll be okay,” he stated. There wasn’t a hint of fear in his gaze. She swallowed.

“How do you know?”

Smiling, he bent over and kissed her gently on the lips.

“Trust me.Now, show me the weapons.”
