As in totally pissed off.
“We need go now,” Tarik reminded them.
Thankfully, none of the other males even spared more than one assessing glance in her direction.
Tarik ‘parked’ her in a seat, strapped her in, and focused on … well, she wasn’t sure of what was going on.
He was looking at the alien male—really hard—and then the guy’s nose and eyes started bleeding and he held up his hands in surrender. Tarik and Kirt watched his every move like a hawk as he worked on the console that took up much of one wall of the room they’d ended up in.
She could hear mechanical sounds throughout the ship as his fingers moved over keys and switches. There were a couple of jolts that unnerved her and clearly unnerved the ‘peoples’ too.
And then she felt like a giant invisible hand had come out of nowhere to crush her against her seat.
The yellow people, the Hirachi, most of whom were still standing—had been—fell down.
By the time they’d managed to scramble into seats the force had eased. Elly was on the point of floating out of her seat when gravity kicked in again.
Obviously, they’d hit space!
For some time after that, Tarik, Kirt and the alien man hovered over the console and then Kirt ushered the alien out.
Tarik approached her and settled in a crouch in front of her to untie her bindings.
“He say he not know where our world. Or yours,” he said grimly.
Crushing disappoint washed over Elly. “Seriously? You believe him?”
“Not here,” he responded, pointing to his head.
Elly stared at him blankly.
“Mind speak,” he explained—which explainednothing!
“Talk in his head.”
Elly blinked a few times. “Telepathy, you mean?”
And then that really sank in and Elly found herself scrambling to recall any ‘negative’ thoughts she might have had when they were around her. “Oh fuck!”
Amusement gleamed in his eyes. “Dis mean make love? I am your man!”
It took a moment for that to sink. “Ha! Very funny,” she responded with a touch of irritation. “So … you got in his head and you’re convinced he doesn’t know where y’all came from? Or me?”
He shook his head. “He was dere to watch fight and buy slaves.” He shrugged. “Mistake. We thought dis was de slaver ship.”
Elly really wanted to cry. She hadn’t allowed herself even to think about going home, but she knew, subconsciously, it had been her dearest wish. She struggled with the urge for a few moments and dismissed it.
She couldn’t have landed in a better situation, she told herself.
Tarik and Kirt had been good to her. They’d taken care of her. They’d risked their lives to save her.
True they’d escaped and clearly that was an improvement for them, too, but they had worked really hard on it for her sake. They’d brought her with them.
Things could have been way worse!
It was a shame she wasn’t going to get the chance to brag to her friends about the two gorgeous hunks that had rescued her, but she’d get to live it and that was the important thing.
No dull nine to five job for her!
The End.
