“You’re mine now. I got this. Go in the other room so he can’t see you,” said Javier.
“He’s not worth the trouble. Let’s just pretend to not be here and he’ll leave,” she replied.
The doorbell rang again and Javi lifted a brow. “Go,” he repeated.
He watched her go down the hall and step into the bathroom, but he noticed that she left the door open so she could hear what was said. Nosy woman.
“What do you want?” asked Javi when he opened the door.
Ricky took a surprised step back. “Why are you here?”
“I asked you a question first, but sure. If I answer your question, will you answer mine? I’m here because my woman lives here. Your turn.”
“Yourwoman?” Ricky questioned in disbelief.
Javi leaned against the doorjamb and crossed his arms. “Yeah, Camdyn Ann Gallegos. She’s mine now, so leave her alone. Quit trying to corner her at work and quit coming around her place.”
He’d thought Ricky would back down, but the jerk asked, “Is Camdyn here?”
“It doesn’t matter if she’s here. You’re not going to get to see her. You’rethe one who blew your shot, Dicky, so get over it. She’s got nothing to say to you.” Then Javi shut the door in the man’s face. He would have rather hit him.
Camdyn walked down the hall towards him. “How did you know my middle name?” she asked.
“Are you griping at me because I know your middle name?” he asked with a laugh.
“It wasn’t a gripe. I was just curious,” she replied while rolling her eyes at him.
Javi moved his hands to her hips. “I like you, so I want to learn about you, and you can learn a lot by observing. I noted what channel you turned your TV to, how you’ve decorated your space. You have mail on your coffee table addressed to your full name. I noticed that, too,” he said as he walked her back towards the chair again while keeping eye contact with her. “For me, nothing is too small of a detail when it comes to you.”
When they got to there, he turned them and sat down. He patted his thighs for her to straddle him again.
She rolled her eyes and then crawled back into his lap. “Now what?”
“Now we do whatever you want. But just know that until you move I’ll be staying here with you if I’m in town.”
“I don’t remember asking you to stay over,” she replied as she moved her arms back to his shoulders. Her fingers played with the hair at the base of his neck.
“You don’t remember that?” he said with exaggerated surprise. “I remember that. Right after you agreed to date me seriously, you asked me to stay over every night with you.”
Her lips were pressed tightly together, and he knew she wanted to laugh, but she held it back.
“How about you stay tonight and then we’ll discuss tomorrow in the morning.”
“I’m agreeable to that as long as you say you’re mineandyou’ll come to my game tomorrow,” he threw in.
“I was planning to come to the game anyway.”
“Great. I’ll get you a ticket.”
“You don’t have to do that. Cal will get me a ticket.”
“Negative. If you’re mine, I’ll be the one to arrange your ticket.”
Cami made a cute little huff of displeasure. “Really? My brother’s probably already arranged it.”
He clearly needed to repeat what he’d told her earlier. “Really. ’Cause you’re mine now. So let me take care of you, because I want to.”
She sat there, studying him, and he wasn’t sure what she was looking for, so he tried making a playful pouty face. It had the desired effect. She burst out laughing, making him smile.
