“You’re totally right. I think I’ve started to grow attached to the idea of Lucas having his real father in his life…” She died off there and went a different direction. “I can’t help but think once he has more of a chance to talk with Lucas, once Lucas knows who he is, it’ll change everything. Eric will fall so madly in love with him and he’ll instantly change into the man he needs to be. But if it all hinges on getting me back…or having some type of fling, which is probably more up his alley…”

“That’s what I’m talking about,” Margo urged. “Make it clear that that isnotgoing to happen. See how excited he is about Thanksgiving weekend.”

Ty nodded. “Yeah, I will.”

“And more importantly,” Margo added. “You need to let Memphis know that you had nothing to do with Eric coming down here. And that you had no idea that it washimyou were massaging when he came in.”

“You’re right. The fact that Memphis brought that up says Eric was running his mouth. I sure didn’t tell him about it. I didn’t have the chance to.”

“It wouldn’t hurt to talk to your mom at some point too. She should know the damage she helped cause.”

Ty groaned.

“Sorry, that can be last on the list. I’ll shut up now.” Margo wrapped her arm around Ty and pulled her in for a side hug. “It’s a good thing Lucas has me and Holly to keep him occupied. You have a lot to do, Miss.”

Ty nodded in agreement, praying inwardly that she could discover Eric’s true intentions where she and Lucas were concerned. Her thoughts veered to Memphis next. Had he really been looking for a way out like Ty suspected, or had he wanted to still make it work despite all the potential madness they might face?

She’d known that letting him go that night would rip her own heart out. But she hadn’t truly believed it would do the same thing for Memphis. She’d believed, until her conversation with Margo, that it had been more of a relief than anything else. Perhaps she’d made him into the man she feared he’d be, instead of the man he really was. The man Memphis had been showing her all along.

If that was the case, Ty only hoped she’d get a second chance to make things work.
