“What’s that?Duh, wanna ride in my chopper, baby?”
Emmitt grinned. “Yep, that’s the one. Now go get manhandled already, will you? I want to hear how he does. I might treat myself to a massage sometime if he’s as good as Andie said.”
Maverick folded his arms. “Well, you’ll have to take her word for it, because there’s no way I’m doing it.”
“Suit yourself.” Emmitt walked over to the bench press and nodded to Memphis. “Spot me?”
But Memphis couldn’t let the issue go so easily. “Wait, we need to at least tell Andie that you’re not coming.”
“If you’re so worried about it, why don’t you step in,Memphis?”
“Because I’m not the one who needs the specialtherapeutictreatment, remember? You are.”
“Yeah,” Emmitt agreed as he settled onto his back beneath the lifting bar. “Plus, it’s his turn to spot me. Take twenty pounds off each,” he instructed, shooting a look at him.
“You mean forty pounds off each,” mumbled Maverick.
How could people be so thoughtless? Some poor guy was waiting at the spa to finish his job interview and secure his position at the inn. Yet his brothers were willing to let him sit there and wait with no client in sight?
“You guys are jerks,” Memphis hissed as he shot to his feet. He ignored the shocked looks and mumbled phrases as he stomped toward the exit and into the bright, afternoon sun.
“Selfish creeps,” he muttered as he weaved his way along the windy path to Andie’s new spa. Memphis was in no mood for a massage himself. In fact, he doubted he could relax long enough to be a suitable subject, but if nobody else was willing to do it, he’d step in so the guy could do what he came to do.
An indoor water fountain trickled and splashed at the front of the entrance. Andie stood close by, fresh lilies in one hand, a glass vase in another. “Hi,” she said, looking past Memphis with the lift of her brow. “Where’s—”
“He’s not coming,” he said with a shrug.
“What? Why not?”
Memphis was ready to spit out his response when a woman stepped into the hallway from one of the back rooms. She set a pair of wide, friendly eyes on him. A slight blush touched her cheeks as she smiled.
Whoa.
“Hi,” she said, voice light and cheery. “Are you Maverick?” With the wave of her hand, she motioned for him to come toward her.
Memphis stumbled forward without answering her question. Too drawn in by the welcoming woman to disappoint. Inwardly, his mind was sayingI’ll be whoever you want me to be.Which meant he’d been spending too much time with his brothers.
“No, this is his twin, Memphis,” Andie said.
Memphis stopped walking and shot a how-could-you look at his sister.
“Go tell him to get his butt in here, will you?” Andie continued.
Memphis turned his gaze back on the pretty brunette in the hallway. She was walking toward him now, revealing the sight of an adorable dimple in her cheek.
“Uh,” Memphis said, “you’reTy?”
“I sure am.” She reached out to shake his hand. “Nice to meet you, Memphis. I really love this place. I think it’s awesome that you and all of your siblings packed up one day and came out here to run an inn together. It’s inspiring.”
He nodded. “Thanks.” Dang, she was pretty. Her hazel eyes reflected the scene behind him—the waterfall ledge and an array of green plants. “My brother Maverick thought you were a guy,” he blurted when he couldn’t think of anything else to say.
“Tsk,” came Andie, catching on before the LMT. “That’swhy he didn’t come? He’s such a baby sometimes.”
Ty looked back and forth between Andie and Memphis as confusion gave way to enlightenment. “Ah,” she said. “He didn’t want to be massaged by amannamed Ty.” It wasn’t a question.
Memphis shrugged. “He’s a dork sometimes.”
“Why don’t you take Ty over to the gym and introduce them?” Andie suggested. “See if he comes to his senses then.”
