She grinned. “That’s my hope too.” Andie kissed him again, short and sweet, then cradled his face in her hands. The short scruff along his jaw tickled her palms.

“I would never want you to let go of something that Milt and you built together. So the wrecking crew thing is off the table—that’snotnegotiable.”

Trenton grinned.

“But,” she added, an idea coming to mind. “I think we could give it a little facelift. And perhaps turn it into something…pretty cool, actually.”

She liked the way his brow lifted in intrigue.

“Then it’s all yours, City Girl.”

Andie moved in, slid her lips along his jawline, and pressed a kiss just below his ear. “Actually,” she purred. “Since we’re partners, I’d say it’s allours.”

“Oh, and one last thing,” she said, tipping back to meet his gaze. “I’m not going anywhere, remember? So the name, if you please, isCountryGirl from now on.”

Never had she seen a smile more brilliant than the one that came over Trenton’s face then. “Country Girl,” he said. “I like the sound of that.”

Epilogue

“Guess we’re going to have to find a different girl to dance with.” Andie was still so caught up in the moment of bliss that she’d almost missed Lee’s comment.

She spun around to see both Dirk and Lee walking by with a plate of food. It reminded her of how hungry she’d been just moments ago. Where had Richard put her plate?

“Yeah, boys,” Trenton said. “I think that sounds like a good idea. I’d like to keep this girl to myself tonight, if that’s okay with her.”

Andie nodded. “We’re making up for lost time,” she said, her gaze still fixed on Trenton.

“I’ve got an idea…” He shifted his gaze to the ranch hands once more. “There’s a couple of college students over there,” he said with a nod toward the dining area. “A group of young ladies. They’re here for spring break.”

“No way!” The pair darted a look in that direction as their eyes went wide.

“Oh, I get the brunette,” Lee said.

“No, I do,” Dirk argued.

“Don’t forget what you learned in the course...” Andie encouraged, hoping they’d recall the detailed harassment class.

Trenton chuckled under his breath. “And just like that, we’re alone once again.”

Andie leaned in, tipping her head until their foreheads touched. “That song…” she started. She was ready to tell him how much she loved the sound, the melody, and the way he’d played it with such passion that it melted her heart, when a hand cupped her shoulder.

She pulled her head away from Trenton’s, wondering how many more interruptions they’d have, and turned to see who’d approached them now.

Richard stood there, skin pale, a shocked expression on his face.

Andie’s heart fell. “What?”

“It’s Maverick and Memphis. They were almost caught.”

She gripped onto that one word of hope.“Almost?”she choked out.

“They made it to the embassy in time. Called Detective Lingley. And they’re headed to one of the temporary relocation centers now.”

Andie tried to digest all that he’d told her. How close to danger had they been? And where would they end up now? “Do you know where they plan to send them?”

Richard glanced over his shoulder before nodding. He blew out a pursed breath, looked at Trenton for a blink, and then squared a look back on her. “Yes, I do,” he said. “They’re sending them here.”
