“Yes, sir.”

It’s unreal to be this close to someone I care so much about. Sex has never meant anything to me beyond physical pleasure, but with Kate, this act of intimacy has become so much more intense. Now that I’m experiencing it with her, I can’t fathom ever doing it with anyone else.

She’s gripping my shoulders despite the cuts on her wrists. I adjust my hold on her to make sure she’s comfortable on the railing, whispering to ask if she is.

I drop my head down to her shoulder as my orgasm rapidly approaches. She’s quivering in my arms, and my hand finds her clit, putting just enough pressure to drive her over the edge.

She’s wrecked me. I resisted every woman who attempted to crack my shell until this one came along like kryptonite to destroy me. She tenses underneath me.

“You’ve wrecked my control. Since the day I met you, I’ve never felt so drawn to anyone the way I am to you.”

I’m still pounding into her. She scrapes my scalp again, kissing my ear. She moans into me, her thighs starting to shake as the orgasm rips through her.

“Kate,” I cry out, letting the tidal wave of pleasure crash over me. I pulse into her, giving into the overwhelming emotional high that has joined us together.

It lasts for several long moments before I come back down, kissing her lips one last time.

Her head is back, resting against the wall of the elevator as she breathes heavily. Her muscles are relaxed, cheeks flushed.

We just had sex in a public elevator.

I glance around the four corners in search of cameras. Unless something changed recently, there shouldn’t be. I checked when I first moved in. Kate pulls out a tissue from a little pack in her purse, taking the condom from me to wrap it up.

After pulling up my jeans, I help her down off the rail. Her eyes dip over me before looking away sheepishly. She pulls her jeans and underwear back up.

“I have to go to New York City,” I tell her.

Her eyes jump up to mine. “Why?”

“Fallon...needs to know the truth about Garrison. She could be in danger.”

She nods, uncertainty in her gaze. I reach for her hand, and she places it in mine. Pushing the emergency stop button again sends us back on our journey up into my penthouse.

I have to tell my sister who she’s married to, and I don’t trust the security of modern technology. Flying to New York to see my sister in person is my only option. I would take Kate with me,but the FBI wants to question her about the attack at Bradshaw Enterprises. They’ve stationed agents outside my penthouse, and Jackson promised to stay and protect her.

I can’t wait any longer. I should’ve left already.

CHAPTER 35

KATE

“Holy shit, this place is swanky.”

Mel came over to stay with me since I’m basically on house arrest until the FBI questions me. Luke said I’m safe, but he wants me to stay put while under Jackson’s protection until he gets back.

“Thank you so much for bringing Speckles.” I pick him up out of the glass aquarium while Mel wanders through Luke’s penthouse. “I’ve missed you so much, my little green squish.”

“Why do you call him that? He’s the opposite of squishy.”

“How have you been? I’m sorry I’ve been MIA.”

She gapes at me as we both find a seat on a plush white leather sofa.

“Umm, yeah, you’re like a Bond girl. How did such a bizarre sequence of events happen to someone who likes to draw cartoons, has exactly zero adventure bones in her body, and had to be talked into the one hookup of her life?” She smirks at me, shaking her newly colored hair. Deep violet roots fading into pale blonde might be my favorite look on her so far.

I shrug, petting Speckles’s head. “It’s been...a whirlwind. I could use a few mundane, boring days.”

Mel flashes a pretty smile, nodding. “My friend Lacey is opening a spa called La Bella Vita. We should go for a whole day and get pampered. Your new boy toy can foot the bill.”
