“Do you mean that?”
“I do.”
Her lips curled into a smile. “Does it mean we could kiss again?”
His heart skipped a beat. “I would think so.”
“Then I’d like to explore this.” She stepped closer to him. “To be clear, my answer would be the same, kissing or not.”
He couldn’t hold back his laughter. “I’m glad of that.”
Pink dotted her cheeks, but she didn’t back away. “What now?”
Leaning his head forward, he looked in her eyes. “I believe another kiss is in order.”
Chapter Ten
Anna pinched her arm.
Ouch. She wasn’t dreaming. If only this day didn’t have to end.
“You could come with me to my parents,” Jack said as they sat in his truck in his driveway. “There’s an hour before I’m supposed to be there. You’d have plenty of time to run home first, and I could pick you up on my way.”
“They’ll ask questions.” She wasn’t sure if she meant that as a question or a statement.
Or if she was ready to go public. Their relationship was only two-hours old. But if she could spend more time with him today, even if that meant staying up later to grade papers once she did go home, then she wanted to.
“Let them.” Taking her hand, he wrapped his fingers around hers. “I should never have hidden the reason why we were working together. I’m not going to hide us, unless that’s what you want.”
She took a minute before answering to make sure that’s what she really wanted. “All right. Let’s do this.”
His broad smile confirmed her answer. “If I pick you up at twelve-fifteen, will that give you enough time?”
“I can make it be enough.” Happiness spilled over into a grin.
He leaned over and dropped a kiss on her cheek. “We can be late if need be.”
“I’ll be ready.”
“Do you have everything you brought?” His hand rested on the door, ready to push it open.
“Yes.”
His eyes stayed on her while he exited through the driver’s side, went around the front, and came to open her door. “I’ll see you in less than an hour.”
She walked to her car and stood by the door. “Are you sure you’re ready to tell you family?”
“Positive.”
Her heart raced with joy. “This is really happening?”
His lips curled at the corners of his mouth, and he chuckled. “Not if you don’t get moving.”
“Okay, okay, I’m going.” She slid into her car, and Jack closed the door for her.
Once home, she rushed to take a shower and dry her hair. She dug through her closet in search of the perfect outfit. This wasn’t a meet the parents date exactly. The Cruz’s house had been a second home to her growing up. Daniel and Elise Cruz treated her like another daughter. She’d even gone on vacation with the family twice over the years because of her friendship with Kelly.
This time would be different. She wouldn’t be visiting their home as Kelly’s friend. She’d be there as Jack’s guest. His girlfriend.
