Because the windows are tinted, it’s a little hard to tell what is going on. I'm about to push up to see a little more out of the window when he turns around heading back toward the car. I quickly turn back toward the front, trying to look like I wasn't staring at them the whole time.
Kieran opens the door peering down into the car. "Ready to go inside?"
"What about the other man?" I ask.
Kieran's jaw clenches when he grits out, "Don't worry about him. He left."
I open the passenger door and slide out of the car. Spinning back around toward him, I ask, "Who was he?"
"Why do you want to know?" he snaps at me, having every defiant cell in me rise up.
Placing my hands on my hips, I stare him down for a split second before I let him have it. "Let me get this straight, you forced me to get married to you and when I ask you about your life you get mad? Nope. You can't have it both ways. Am I your wife or am I your prisoner? Tell me now, so I know how to act going forward."
Not allowing him to answer, I spin back around and march off toward the house. I can hear his footsteps behind me, they're loud and I can tell by the sound of them he's angry. But I'm mad too, dammit.
I throw open the door to the room and march in, going straight for his dresser. Pulling open the boxer drawer, I grab the top pair just as Kieran walks into the room asking, "What are you doing?"
I send him a glare, but I don't reply. My hands reach for the ruined boxers, pulling them off. Before I can pull the new pair on, I can feel the heat of Kieran'sbody behind me, making me pause before I blurt out, "Leave me alone."
"I love the way you look in my clothes," he mutters against my ear.
"Well, I don't have any of mine, so I'm forced to," I snark back, while pulling the boxers up to cover my ass.
Kieran takes a step back from me. I turn toward him, his brow pinched as he says, "Don't worry, I'll remedy that tomorrow."
"What does that mean?" I ask him.
Kieran takes a step toward me, his fingers caressing the side of my cheek. "You were right. You're my wife, Mia, I should treat you as such. My mother agreed to go shopping with you tomorrow, Henry will accompany you."
My eyes go wide with how his mood changes so quickly. Wasn't he just mad? At least his footsteps were when he was walking behind me.
"Wait, you're not mad?" I ask him.
"Oh no, I'm mad.”
“Why are you mad? I’m the one who has to go shopping with two people I barely know,” I reply.
Kieran grips my hand, leaning over me as he mutters, “I don't ever want you thinking of another man, ever. Even if it’s just a mere thought of curiosity. But I don't plan on yelling at you, no I'm going to punish you another way," he replies with a wicked glint in his eye.
A shiver runs down my spine and I can't help but physically shake, making Kirean grin. "What are you going to do to me?"
"Oh, wife, you'll see, but for tonight you need your rest," he says, but before he can say any more, his phone rings. I watch as Kieran pulls his phone out, letting out a deep breath as he says, "I have to take this. I'll meet you in bed, wife."
"Okay," I breathe out.
Standing still, I watch as he walks out of the bedroom. I take a deep breath, letting it out slowly. "One day I'm going to figure that man out," I mutter to myself, then turn to head to the bathroom.
Kieran pops his head back into the room. "Oh, by the way. I had one of my staff members bring in a few romance books, she put them on your nightstand."
Excitement runs through me with the idea of reading a new book. It only takes me a few minutes to get ready for bed, before I'm skipping over to my side. Well, the side of the bed that has the books on them.
I plop down, reaching for the top book on the stack and I can't help but shriek when I see Lola Glass's latest book,Bearly in Love. I've had this book on my list since it came out, but funds have been tight. Laying down on the bed, I open up to the first page, I try to tell myself that this shouldn't make me want to let things go with Kieran, but this is too much to ignore. I've never had anyone buy books for me, it was always something I did in secret. Mother didn’t allow for frivolous things, and I wasalways worried that she would use them against me if she had a chance.
I try to stay up, to see Kieran before I fell asleep, but the words on the page relax me, and before I know it, my eyes are closing.
