“You answered the door in your robe that was half open.” He folds his arms over his chest. “What was I supposed to do?”

“I had just gotten out of the shower,” I say in my defense.

“I didn’t hear you complaining.” He glares at me, and I tilt my head to the side.

“Pretty hard to do anything when you covered my mouth with yours.” I smile at him. “Then I forgot everything.”

He walks around to me, turning me on the stool as he grabs me around my waist and lifts me up. “I had a good day at work.” He places me on the island, and I open my legs for him to stand in between them. “Then I went to see my girl at work, and it got even better.” He pushes the hair over my shoulder as he bends and kisses under my jaw. “Then I left in such a great mood, so I was going to buy my girl some flowers, cook her dinner, flirt with her over dinner. Then I got a phone call, and it pissed me off, so all my plans were almost fucking forgotten, when all I wanted to do was call my ex back and tell her to go fuck herself.”

“You were going to flirt with me?” I grip the side of his shirt in my hand and pull him to me. He nods as he pushes the other side of my hair behind me, leaving my neck open for him.

“Oh yeah,” he assures me in a low growl as he sucks the side of my neck. “Major flirting was to happen.”

“Do you think that you could still do that?” I ask him. I close my eyes and shiver when I feel his breath on my ear and his lips kiss right behind my lobe. “What if we just did a redo of when the day started to turn to shit?”

“What do you mean?” he asks me.

“I mean, why don’t we get in the car and go buy me some flowers.” I lean forward and softly kiss his jaw. “Then we can come home, and I can let you go inside, and then I’ll ring the doorbell a couple of minutes later.” I put my hands on his shoulders. “It’ll be Groundhog Day, but not the whole day.”

“You know what?” he replies, plucking me off the counter, “that is a great idea.” He shocks me, slipping his hand in mine. “Let’s go.”

“What?” I ask as I try to keep up with him as he walks out of the house, slamming the door behind us, and then pressing the lock button on the keypad. When we are both down the steps, he turns around and his mouth crashes down on mine, right before he walks over to the passenger side of his SUV and puts me in it. “I was joking,” I say as he pulls out of his driveway. He looks over at me and breaks into a grin, and then he smirks and certain parts of me start to flutter.

“Shit,” he swears once he pulls into a parking spot and looks over at me, “this isn’t where I parked.” He looks around and I put my hand on his leg.

“I think we’ll be okay,” I tell him as I look around. “Do you want me to come in or will that mess with it?”

He looks around. “You can come in, but you can’t say anything.”

“Pretend I’m not even here,” I tell him and he snorts.

“Baby, when you’re in the room, there is no way I can pretend you aren’t there,” he states. I put my hand on his cheek and bend to kiss him.

“That was very smooth, Knox. I see the flirting part of the night has started” I rub his cheek with my thumb as he opens his door, and I step down. He slides his hand in mine as he walks over to the flower shop. He pulls open the door and we step in. A lady comes out of the backroom and smiles at us.

“Hi.” The woman smiles at him. “I’d like to buy some flowers for my lady.” He holds up our joined hands and kisses my fingers. “Something romantic.”

She smiles at me. “What price range would you like to stay in?”

“It doesn’t matter,” he remarks. “I was thinking that I like these.” He points to the purple peonies. “And maybe we can add in some white ones.” He points to the white blooms. “And then some small roses.”

“Let me do something, give me about ten minutes.”

“Perfect, we’ll be back.” He then turns and walks out of the shop, heading to the door next to the flower shop. “This wasn’t on my plan, but I would have probably stopped.”

I look around the cupcake shop and my mouth waters. “I’ll take a box of six,” he tells the teenager behind the counter, “mixed.”

She nods at him as she fixes him a box. As she hands him the box, he lets go of my hand to take the cupcakes. When we walk out, he takes them back over to the SUV, putting the cupcakes in the back seat before pressing me into the passenger side door. “We have to make a detour.” He puts his thumb at the side of my jaw. “Get some whipped cream,” I lick my bottom lip, “maybe some chocolate sauce.”

“Um,” I start, my voice trembling, “if you really want to play, we should hit up a sex store and gets some toys.” His eyes go big. “Or we can stop by my house.” I grip the front of his shirt. “There is this little—” I stop talking when his mouth crashes down on mine and we end up making out like it’s the last time I’ll ever fucking see him.

He lets me go and I’m gasping. “Tonight we’ll do the whip cream and the chocolate sauce, and then tomorrow night we’ll look through your toys.”

“Don’t tease me with a good time, Knox.” I wink at him.

“Get in the car and close your eyes,” he urges. “I’m going to go get the flowers and put them in the trunk so you don’t see them.”

I don’t tell him that I already saw them when I went into the shop. Instead, I get in the car and close my eyes and bask in the fact I’ve never felt safer and more loved in my whole life. I’ve never wanted to make someone as happy as I want to make him. I’ve never wanted to just be with someone doing nothing more than I do with him. I’ve never trusted anyone else like I trust him.
