I step into AHC’s foyer, my heartbeat slowing as I walk up to the reception desk.
“Hey, Nora?”
She glances up from her computer monitor, blinking owlishly at me from behind her glasses. “Back already?”
“Yeah, turns out Haven didn’t need me after all.” I try to sound glib, but Jesus those words scorch my chest like desert air.
Nora blinks at me expectantly. “And?”
…yeah, and…?
“And…” I rest on my forearm, leaning in to smile at her. “I think I can help you after all.”
The rage hasn’t disappeared. It’s simmering below the surface, ready to explode.
A smile ghosts across my lips as I head for my next class.
I was going to declare a truce with Haven. Let her live her best college princess life while I go about my goddamn business.
But to hell with that.
This is motherfucking war.
Chapter 39
Haven
“Miss Lee!”
My head snaps up. I blink at Bastian standing a few yards away, my feet faltering beneath me.
What the hell? Our agreement was one kiss, and he’d leave us alone.
First Kai thinks some half-assed apology can undo all the vile things he’s done to me, now Bastiandarespresume I still want to talk to him after the shit he pulled on Tuesday?
Molten lava levels of fury erupts inside me.
I’d been on my way back to GAZ, ready to bury my head in my textbooks until my 2pm Urban Studies class.
It was that or bury Kai.
But now…?
“You!” I spit, veering toward Bastian.
He watches me approach with a disturbingly calm expression. “You seem upset.”
Thisfuckingguy.
“Upset?” I shake my head, rushing after him when he turns to walk away. “I’m bordering on fucking homicidal!”
Bastian disappears behind a boulder, but I follow without hesitation.
I’ve had enough of him. Enough of Kai. Enough of everyone and everything.
No more Miss Nice Lee.
This world doesn’t deserve her.
