He nodded slowly, as if accepting this information, got up, and walked over to me.
I was topless, with my arms crossed, and my gaze was level with his chest when he neared me.
“So let me get this straight. You let me go down on you, but that’s where the train stops tonight.”
I nodded. “That’s correct.”
“God you look hot when you’re being stubborn,” he smirked, and I felt my insides flare with anger.
“I’m not being stubborn. I’m being reasonable. And responsible.”
He ran his fingers lightly over my cheek and slid them down to my neck. My spine tingled with excitement when he touched me.
Without saying anything, he pulled up an app on his phone, handed it to me, and winked.
“What’s this?”
“Just read it. You’ll know.”
I rolled my eyes. “An STI checkup?”
“Yep. I just had one done a few weeks ago. And I’ve been holding out since then. I wanted to show you the proof.”
I scoffed and handed it back to him. It was great that he was being safe and all, but this all just seemed like it was happening quite fast. “Look, okay, you’re clean, great. But I think the moment has passed.”
“Moment has passed for what?”
“Us going all the way.”
“Well, maybe that’s not what I want.”
“What else would you want?”
He pulled out a little ring box from a drawer, and popped it open. Locking his eyes on me, got down on one knee.
My heart began to beat furiously.
“Kit Cat, let’s get married. You’re smart, gorgeous, and we have a connection that neither of us can quite explain.”
I let out a small gasp, feeling myself frozen and unable to speak.
“Tell me you haven’t felt it,” he added.
I put my hand over my mouth. “What the hell, Dustin? Is this for real?
He bit his lip. “Just say yes. Come on. I told you I’d never get down on my knees for anyone. Look what I’m doing.”
I clutched my locket. “No, Dustin. Absolutely not.”
CHAPTER 7
CATARINA
It might have been almostmidnight, but his eyes didn’t look drowsy at all. On the contrary, they looked electric and full of life. His arm pressed into the door, holding it shut.
“So, this is what you do when the man of your dreams asks you to get married? You run away?”
“And the most modest man, too, apparently.”
