I pull out my phone and fire off a text to Ty.
Hunter: Turn off all volume on the sports channels. Closed captions only. And crank up the music.
Ty: What? Why?
Hunter: I didn’t come clean. I don’t want her hearing my voice on ESPN or something and putting two and two together.
Ty: LOL. “Thor” still lives? Bro. Just tell her.
Hunter: I just need to buy a little more time while I come up with a plan.
Moments later, Ty appears beside me, hand on my shoulder, grinning like a devil.
“Good luck with that, buddy,” he says. “Onlyyoucould paint yourself into a corner this weird.”
I grunt, then type out a new message.
From Thor, of course.
Thor: Hey there. How’s the shift tonight?
She replies instantly.
Luna: Nothing too crazy, but I do have work… I’ll text you later. Excited for tonight. :)
No texting at work, you naughty girl.
I chuckle to myself, sipping water like it’s wine.
Guess I’m not the only one breaking rules tonight.

FAITH
Ifly through my shift, floating on cloud nine knowing I’m meeting up with Thor.
Tonight.
I’m absolutely dying to see the face attached to those abs. And that voice.
“Hey, Brian, I need a re-fire on those fish tacos for table eighty-two.”
Brian, the cook, squints at me. “Who are you?”
“I’m Faith. A trainee.”
“Yeah, alright. Two minutes.”
I grab a drink of water from my cup and down it fast. As I linger by the expo window, waiting for Daphne to come back, my phone buzzes in my pocket.
No phones at work—the rule was statedloud and clearon day one.
But I’ve been dying to hear where I’m meeting Thor tonight.
I sneak a glance.
Thor: Hey, I’m so sorry, I know we were planning to hang out tonight but I can’t make it.
