“That’s crazy. He gon’ have my cousin around here stressed the fuck out with two pieces of hair on her head.” We laughed. “What does he do for a living?”
“Why? So you can go back and gossip with your crazy-ass cousin?”
“No.” He gave me the ‘yeah, right’ look. “Okay, but in her defense, she should be privy to that information and not be blindsided. She told me he showed her his account, but she needs to know where he got all that money from.”
“What did he tell her he did?”
“Construction.”
Basil laughed as I stared at him. “You can’t tell Rae what I tell you in confidence, baby.”
“I won’t.”
“Promise me.”
“I promise, babe. Scouts honor.” I crossed my heart.
“That nigga does not do construction. Tray is an heir to a bank owner. He won’t be able to take over until he gets that blemish off his record, but his moms been filling his account up since he was eighteen.”
“Are you serious?”
“Yeah. Cuz ain’t got shit to worry about if she decides to accept his proposal.”
“Can I just tell her a little bit to ease her mind?”
“No, baby, you promised me.”
“Fine. I won’t say anything.”
“You bet’ not, or I’m going to set up a room in the basement on someFifty Shades of Greytype shit, and torture yo’ fine ass.”
“I’m starting to think you have a bondage kink.”
“And you would be right.”
I smiled. “Oh goodness. What have I gotten myself into with you?”
“A lifetime of good dick, happiness, and love.”
“I like the sound of that,” I said, biting my lip.
We had another round of sex before we washed and dried, and I fell asleep with a content smile on my face.
One MonthLater
June
It was the first day of summer, the weather was nice, and the kids were finally out of school for summer break. Things between Alicia and I had been moving at a steady pace. I still took care of the kids during the day and left before they went down for bed.
Most nights, I’d have to double back because her freaky ass wanted to get tossed up. I didn’t mind at all, because I couldn’t get enough of her ass either.
Today, she and the kids would officially meet my parents. Gloria and Brian had been on my head for weeks about bringing Alicia and the kids over, since Bilal and Sheena came running their mouths after the party.
They must have said more than I expected because even my pops was on my head about them. Pops never called me to talk about my love life. Not saying he didn’t want what was best for me, but he didn’t show this much interest when I was dating Nyami.
I knew why though.
Nyami was a totally different vibe from Alicia. When she’d come around, she didn’t really say much, and she would act as if she wanted to be anywhere but sitting at the dinner table with my parents.
