“$70,000.”

“Deal.”

My husband pulled me into his arms, his firm lips over mine, his fingers on my chin, kissing me before all the cream and elite of society. Silas Di Pietro might not be the Governor, buthe could still command a massive outpouring of support for the animal rescue society.

Meals on Wheels, free public school lunches, brand new hospitals. This tight-fisted bastard husband of mine was suddenly the world’s leading philanthropist.

I tried to protest, but he murmured, “a deal’s a deal,” against my lips, and I had to agree, melting into his kiss, letting his strong grip pull me closer.

His tongue swept into my mouth as I felt my skin heat up, that decadent rich arousal grow and coil in my belly.

Soulmates?

It was a ridiculous idea. Wasn’t it?

But this bastard wasn’t letting up. Wasn’t letting go. Was it possible he really did love me?

After the show was over, he escorted me into his new Jaguar, then tossed a single sheet of paper over to me.

“What’s this?” I asked as Silas smoothly shifted into gear and we shot off down the road to the massive golden manor, apalacereally, that he’d built for me right downtown.

“Just read it.”

“You know what they say about middle-aged men in sports cars,” I said as I picked it up.

He only laughed, those little lines around his eyes crinkling up attractively.

Damn man. No matter how bratty I was, how much I snarked at him, whatever test I gave him, he was still there, horny as hell.

But when I read the piece of paper, I gasped in shock.

“Is this some kind of joke? An update to our prenup?”

“That’s right,” Silas said, his eyes boring into mine as he zipped into our driveway, the automatic gate closing after us.

“But this would give me access to your entire fortune if you cheated. . . even one time! All your companies, stocks, every piece of property you own. You know your shareholders wouldn’t go for this!”

“They have no say,” he shrugged.

“They’ll say you’ve gone soft,” I pointed out. “That you’ve lost your edge.”

My husband got out of the car and came around to my side to open my door.

“I don’t give a fuck. I’m just as ruthless as I ever was—my goal now is for you to love me. And love meforever.”

“I’ll have to show this to my lawyer, but this looks ironclad!”

“Of course it is, sweetheart. Now there’s no obstacles to us being together.”

Something pulled again, deep in my belly, and I couldn’t ignore it this time.

“Think of all my lovely money,” Silas murmured in my ear as he swept me inside, up the marble staircase and down the hall to our luxurious quarters. “All that money I get through being a cold, amoral bastard in my business dealings. Think of all the causes you could spend that money on.”

He kissed the top of my head and I said nothing, but inwardly I was smiling.

It seemed I’d met my match.

If I took all his money, he’d just make another $5 million and offer it up as a love bribe.
