“I really don’t think it’s that.”
“You can’t know for sure unless you take a test.”
“I think I’m afraid to take a test.We did what we had to.I can’t be pregnant.”
“But if you are, wouldn’t you rather know?Aren’t you going to obsess over it until you know for sure?”
Nico sighed again.He looked tired, and Mackenzie wanted nothing more than to bundle him up and protect him from the world.He wished Nico would allow him to do that, but he wouldn’t even know where to start.He couldn’t protect Nico from becoming an alpha.He couldn’t even protect Nico from Silas if the man attacked him.He was human.
“Fine,” Nico said.“I’ll buy a test and do it as soon as I can.”
“I actually have a few here.”
Nico blinked.“Why would you have a pregnancy test in your house?”
Mackenzie was slightly embarrassed.“When Dean found out he was pregnant, and before I knew that I didn’t have the genes it takes, I freaked out about the possibility.I bought a few pregnancy tests, just in case, then felt like an idiot when it turned out that there’s no way I can get pregnant.Come on.Let’s go upstairs and do this.”
Nico looked like he wanted to refuse, but he got to his feet and took Mackenzie’s hand when Mackenzie offered it to him.His hand was cold, and Mackenzie squeezed it, wishing there was more he could do.
He led Nico to the bathroom and dug through his drawers to find one of the pregnancy tests he’d left there, then put it on the counter.Nico looked at it like it was a bomb about to explode, so Mackenzie kissed his forehead.“You want me to stay here for this?”
“I’m not going to make you stay here and watch me pee on a stick.You can go back downstairs.”
“I’m not going anywhere.I’ll be outside the door.”
Nico looked like he wanted to argue, but there had to be something in Mackenzie’s expression because instead, he nodded.Mackenzie stepped out, trying to look calm when he was freaking out.
What would they do if Nico was pregnant?Mackenzie didn’t think either of them was ready for that, but it wasn’t like they’d have a choice.They’d have to deal with it, and whatever Nico decided, Mackenzie would support him.
He needed to be there for Nico.That meant that he had to freak out now, before Nico came out of the bathroom with a positive pregnancy test.
Because Mackenzie was sure itwouldbe positive.

NICO DIDN’T WANT TOdo this, but he did anyway because Mackenzie was right.He needed to know.If he was pregnant, he couldn’t hide his head in the sand, even though he wanted to.He’d have to start planning, to make decisions, and talk to his father.
He quickly peed on the stick, then left it on the counter and carefully avoided looking at his reflection in the mirror.Instead, he glanced down at his stomach and pressed his hand against it.
He was still queasy.It could be a stomach bug, what where the chances?
What would he do if the test was positive?How would Mackenzie feel about having a child with him?Would he want that, or would he freak out?Mackenzie had just found out that some men could get pregnant.He and Nico had gotten together just a few weeks ago.It was way too soon for them to have a child.
It looked like they might not have a choice.If Nico was pregnant, he wanted to keep the baby.It was probably a crazy decision considering the state of his life, but he did.He was pretty sure that Mackenzie would support him, too.Nico had wanted to see where things could go between them, and it looked like he was about to get what he’d wished for.The way Mackenzie reacted would tell him everything he needed to know about their future.
He swallowed.He could do this.Whatever happened next, he knew he could.The only real danger was Silas.Nico didn’t want to disappoint his father, but Mackenzie was right.He probably already had and would again.It was just how things went, and he’d have to learn to deal with that.Besides, even if his father was disappointed, he’d want Nico to be responsible.If Nico was pregnant, that meant taking care of his child.It wasn’t like Nico had been stupid about it or anything.He and Mackenzie had been careful.
Not careful enough, considering the test was positive.
Nico stared at it for a moment, but it didn’t change.It stayed positive, no matter how long he looked at it.Nico was going to be a dad.
“Mackenzie?”he called out.
The door opened instantly.Mackenzie peeked in, his gaze going straight to the test.He didn’t look surprised to see it was positive.He stepped in, and when he opened his arms, Nico dove into them.
“You don’t have to make any decision right now,” Mackenzie murmured.“You can take a few days.”
“I already know I want this baby,” Nico murmured.
