I felt everything my pops said, and I appreciated what I had. I just wouldn’t rest until my family was safe in my arms. This shit was so unbelievable that all I could do was hang my head. If I tried to tell this story to someone on the outside, they’d think I was cappin’. So much had transpired in the past nine months that it felt like I was in a damn horror movie.
My pops and I went back to my crib, and he made us both a drink. I took mine into my son’s room and sat in the rocking chair. I looked around, and the thought of my baby boy not being able to sleep in his own bed was really fucking with my head. I was feeling like a real failure right now. My girl and son were snatched from me, and it wasn’t shit I could do about it.
One thing I knew for sure was that I was gonna put Diamond to rest once and for all. I didn’t even want to think of what she could be doing to Moni right now. Diamond was so obsessed with her, and I just prayed she wouldn’t do something to harm them. When I looked at the clock in my son’s room, it was midnight.
After a glass of Jack, I woke up the next morning at 11:00 am. I jumped up, grabbed my phone from the nightstand, and checked it for missed calls or messages. Diamond hadn’t reached out, but I had several missed calls from Trell. I called him back, and he immediately answered.
“Bruh! You won’t believe this shit. Last night when I made it to Memphis, I put my ears to the streets and found out that the nigga Serg has a bag on his head. I was gonna find his family and off them bitches, but now I got something better for his ass. He crossed the College Park niggas and got a lot of them niggas jammed up. They big homie is on the trail now, and they said that nigga supposed to be testifying. They been looking for that nigga. I done said too much, but I’m on the highway, and I’ll see you in a few hours. We about to settle all this shit,” Trell said before we hung up.
I gathered myself and let what Trell told me sink in. We were living in a different time, and now niggas snitching on their own people had become the norm. I would never be able to do that shit. Give me a hunnit’ years, and I still wouldn’t rat on my crew. I got up and brushed my teeth, then I went and found my pops. He was sitting in the living room, watching the news anddrinking coffee. He looked stressed, and I just prayed that this all would be over today.
“Any word? I ain’t get a wink of sleep! I been sitting here since we got in last night. I won’t rest until I have that bitch’s head on a platter. She fucked with the wrong family!” my pops snapped without taking his eyes off the tv.
“Yeah, Trell found out some valuable information on the nigga with Diamond. He’s on his way back in town, and we’re gonna make a move when he gets back. I’m still waiting on a call from Diamond. She hasn’t reached back out, and on the cool, I’m worried. I don’t want you stressing though, Pops. Get you a nap, and I’ll wake you up if something changes.”
“This ain’t the time for sleep! I’ll sleep when my grandson is in his own damn house and not in the presence of some psychotic ass bitch. Don’t worry about me, son, I’m straight!” my pops insisted.
I knew that what he said was final, and I wasn’t going to push the issue. He moved on his time. I sat down on the couch beside him and watched the news. After chilling for a few hours with no call from Diamond, Trell called back, telling me to meet up our spot. My pops and I headed out, and I anticipated what Trell was about to tell me next. When I made it to our spot, there were five cars outside. I didn’t know what Trell had going on. No one was supposed to even know where this place was.
Once we got inside, there was about twelve hood ass niggas sitting around, smoking and talking to Trell. When we walked in, everyone stood to greet my pops. They gave him mad respect and was grateful to be in the same room with a legend. Trell introduced them to us, and he ran down the whole story to me. The head nigga in charge name was Rico, who told me that upon us leading them to Serg alive, they had fifty racks for us. I didn’t know about the next man, but one thing I didn’t do was turn down easy bread. All I had to do now was wait for the call.
There was a code in the streets, and Serg broke that. Now it was time for him to pay the piper. I didn’t know the nigga, but what I did know was that if these niggas hadn’t shown up, I was gonna be the man to kill him.
Just as I was starting to think Diamond wouldn’t call today, my phone rang, and it was her. When I answered, she told me to have my money together, and that she would call back in an hour with the location for us to meet her. She agreed that she would have Harmoni and Cadence. As soon as I ended the call, my 360 app dinged, letting me know that Harmoni’s phone was back on and had pinged a location. I instantly zoomed in and was able to screenshot it right before the location dropped again. I was unable to get the full address, only the area and streets near it. I didn’t give a fuck; I was about to find it.
I told everyone what was said, and we came up with a plan to get at them right away. We hopped in our cars, and everyone followed me. I was nervous as hell because I didn’t know what I was about to pull up to. I just prayed that everything would be alright. While I was on the highway, I got a call from Ciara.
“What’s up, Ci?” I answered.
“I got the Lo on Diamond and her nigga. I know where they keeping Moni. I just texted you the address, and I’m on my way!” she blurted.
“How you know this? You don’t need to come, Ciara. Just be cool! I’m gonna handle this shit. I already have a team of niggas trailing me right now. We don’t need your help. Go home!”
“Man, if you don’t stop fucking insulting me! Who the fuck do I look like to go home and sit still? Nigga please. You my brother, and I don’t wanna disrespect you, but it’s clear that you don’t know me like that. What’s even more insulting is that you were about to ride out and leave me hanging! Ain’t that some bullshit! I’ll see you soon,” Ciara said and hung up.
My pops and I both shook our heads. I couldn’t believe that I would have to deal with crazy ass Ciara for the rest of my life. She made it clear that she wasn’t going anywhere, and I didn’t know whether to love or hate that for my future wife. The location that my app gave me was only twenty minutes from where we were, so we made it in no time. As we got closer, I clicked the address that Ciara had just sent me, and it was at the same spot. Only it was the exact location.
We parked on the dirt road about three minutes away from the actual location. I knew that no one would be coming that way, so I wasn’t worried about getting caught up. When we all parked on the side of the road, all the Memphis niggas jumped out guns in hand. As we walked toward the address, we noticed the same black SUV parked in the yard.
I made sure the niggas with us knew that we were kicking the door in immediately. I wasn’t there to talk or play games. I was strictly here to get my family.
After handling that bitch Journei, Rowdy took me back to my car. I knew he was tired of my ass and wanted to handle business with just the men. I didn’t give a damn, though. Moni was my heart; I would never let something happen to her and I just sit down and not see about it.
As I drove myself home, I fired up the blunt I had just rolled when I got back into my car. I turned my radio on, and slow jams were playing. As I jumped on the highway with no real destination, for a second, I missed Trell. He would always play slow jams when we were fucking around. Just as the thought ran through my mind, my phone rang, and it was Trell calling. I unblocked his number just to see if he was still randomly calling me sometimes, although he knew I had previously had him blocked.
“What do you want, Trell?” I answered.
“Are you good? I just wanted to check and make sure you were straight. I’m not beefing with you. You the only person who has a problem in this situation. I still want to make sure you good,” he said.
“Listen, if you can’t understand what you did to make me feel how I do, I would just advise you to stop calling my shit. You acting like you green, nigga, and I know you have more sense than you pretending to have. Don’t worry about me or try to check on me. I’m good. Ima always be straight. You don’t gotta worry about that. I’m not your girl, and we were never nothing to each other. Just let the shit go ’cause you getting on my nerves now.”
“I’m worried about you, and I’m also worried about the baby. Can you please just sit down and talk to me when I come back in town tomorrow? We need to come to some type of understanding without you chewing my head off. We weren’t together, but it was understood that you were mine. I fucked up, but I’m human. I’m trying to fix the shit, and now I know better,”
“Drive safely, Trell. I can’t give a fuck ’bout how you feel or having a sit down while my best friend and my nephew is with Diamond and some thug ass nigga. You selfish and don’t need to call my shit again unless it’s with an update on Moni. As a matter of fact, I’m sure I’ll find her before you niggas anyway!” I said and disconnected the call.
I exited the highway and drove to Smutty’s house. I knew where he lived because his triflin’ ass had me over to his place while his wife was out of town. At that time, I had no clue that he was married. When I pulled up to his spot, I parked two houses down from. I called his number, and it went straight to voicemail. I called right back, and the phone rang. That let me know his dirty ass still kept his phone on do not disturb while he was at home.
“Hello?” Smutty answered in a whisper.
