He’s right about not being ready right this moment, and I’m glad he is giving me the right to choose. But he’s so wrong about one thing. I place my hand on his cheek, rubbing back and forth as he leans into my touch. “That’s where you're wrong, Alex. I could never regret you. But you're right about slowing down for right now. I just need more time to wrap my head around all this. Around you. I’ve never done this before, so this is all new to me.”

He places one more kiss on my lips, smiling as he pulls back. “There is no rush. Like I said, Selene, we go how fast or how slow you want to do this. Just don’t run scared, baby, when you feel like it’s too much. Tell me and we will work through anything. I’m crazy for you, Selene Doyle. You have me tied up in knots.”

I have to swallow past the emotions wanting to be let out. This man makes me feel some type of way. “I promise I won’t run.”

His blinding smile that I’m starting to really love graces his face, as if I just gave him everything. “That’s all I ask for. Come on, let's get you fed. Dinner is ready.”

Alex grabs my hand, leading me towards his kitchen. Whatever he’s made smells amazing. “Is there anything I can help you with? It smells good.”

He pulls out the bar stool for me, helping me up. “Nope, everything is ready. I made chicken Alfredo, with a caesar salad and garlic toast. I hope that’s okay?” He plates the food and grabs two beers out of the fridge and places it in front of me.

“That’s one of my favorites, so it’s perfect, thank you.” I watch as he rounds the island before sitting beside me.

“Dig in.”

I take my first bite, and the flavor explodes on my tongue. Jesus, this food is amazing and not from a box. “Omg, this is so good, Alex. Where did you learn to cook like this?”

He laughs, shaking his head. He takes a pull of his beer and I watch as he swallows and even that I find sexy. I shake my head out of my lust filled thoughts and dig into my food. “Thank you. I'm glad you like it. I’ll be happy to cook for you anytime. My mom is the one who taught me and my brother. She made sure to teach us, as she didn’t want us to starve when we moved out and got our own place. So we would spend Sundays in the kitchen with her, as she taught us her favorite recipes. Sundays were always meant for family days, a day where we can catch up on what’s going on with our lives. Though Adrian didn’t quite catch on to the whole cooking thing. I don’t know how many times he almost burned our kitchen down. It got so bad that dad kept two fire extinguishers in the kitchen just in case.”

I can’t help but laugh. I think this is the first time he’s mentioned his parents. He has pictures up by the fireplace of a couple with their arms wrapped around him and Adrian. “Ya, that’s happened to mom and me once. We totally forgot about the cookies baking that they burned to a crisp. I thought my dad was going to have a heart attack when he walked into the kitchen filled with smoke.”

“Don’t worry, I have a few stashed around the house just in case.” He winks at me, making me smile.

I finish up my plate and push it to the side. I don’t think I could eat another bite. “Are you and your parents close?”

He looks at me with a sad smile on his face. “We were close right up until they were killed in a car accident when I was in my twenties. Adrian had already left for the army when it happened.”

My heart is breaking for him and his brother. I can’t imagine what that feels like. I don’t know what I would do without my mom. Placing my hand on his, I give it a squeeze. I can feel the tears forming in my eyes. “I’m so sorry Alexander.”

He gently brushes a tear from my face. “Don’t cry for me, baby. It was a long time ago. I still hold their memory in my heart.”

“I can still be sad for you Alex. If you want, I can share my parents with you. My dad might give you a hard time, but my mom will love you.” She already knows everything there is to know about Alexander Wade.

“Thank you, baby. That means a lot. You seem to be really close with your parents. Do you and your step dad get along?” Alex gets up to clear the plates and starts loading the dishwasher. I go to get up to help when he just smiles and shakes his head. I feel so spoiled. Normally when I’m at home, I’m too lazy to do anything for myself after working all day. That I will literally eat off of paper plates just so I don’t have to do the dishes.

“When I was small, it was mom and I for so long that we did everything together. My real dad left when I was four and never looked back. I don’t remember him much but then again, if he could walk out on mom and I, he isn’t worth remembering, is he? Anyway it took a long time for mom to even want to date again and when she met Peter it was love at first sight for them both. Their romance was truly something out of a fairytale. He treats her like the queen she is and, in return, she treats him like a king. And he became the father I never had. My dad is amazing. That’s why I was scared to tell them what’s been going on. I don't like disappointing my parents and I honestly thought he would have gone away on his own by now. So it doesn’t surprise me when dad said he will see me tomorrow at work. I’m sure before the week is over I will get a visit from mom as well.”

Alex closes the dishwasher and takes my hand, leading me towards the living room. We take a seat on the couch as he pulls me to his side, making me sigh in contentment. “I’m glad you have that kind of relationship with your parents. And I don’t think they could ever be disappointed in you, Selene. They want what any parent wants for their child. Happiness and safety. And right now, your safety is the number one priority to all of us. You mean so much more to me than I ever thought possible. I would burn this world to the ground if I thought it would keep you safe. So if you think I’m being overboard with your safety, it's because I can’t have anything happen to you. I won’t allow it.” He pulls me tighter to him as if he’s scared to let me go in fear of something happening to me.

And by the dead set look in his eyes, oh boy, I think he means it. He really would burn this world to the ground just for me, consequences be damned. My eyes start to close as he runs his fingers through my hair, making me relax. Just before I fall into a deep sleep, my eyes shoot open as a thought occurs to me. I know in my heart and soul Alexander Wade, billionaire Real Estate mogul, is in love with me. That thought alone should have me running scared. Instead, I burrow into him deeper, knowing I’m right where I’m meant to be.

Chapter 6

I'vebeenatworkfor three hours now and have gotten little done in the way of actual work. Instead of Adrian picking me up like I thought, Alexander decided he was going to be driving me into work. He did try to get me to stay home, but that was not happening, so as soon as he pulled up at work Adrian was already standing there waiting for us along with another guy just as big as him with a wicked-looking scar running down his face. I watched as he said something to Adrian, then walked away. But not before the both of them got an eye full when Alex pulled me to him and kissed me, making my toes curl. When we walked into the building, every set of eyes was on us, well more so on Adrian from all the women in the building. They couldn't keep their eyes off of him. I had to practically drag him to the elevators or we would still be stuck downstairs in the lobby while Jane from accounting drooled all over him. Mia was having a laughing fit in her chair as she watched the whole thing.

And now, hours later, that’s all I can think about. Alexander and his kisses and what they are doing to me. If he doesn’t make his move soon, I may just self combust with lust. I want Alexander something fierce. It’s not something I ever felt before. I just know I want him like I need my next breath. My mind conjures up the most sexy image of him I can. Alex naked standing in front of me while stroking his cock as I watch pre cum leak through the tip, making my mouth water for a taste of him. He walks closer with a hungry look in his eyes.

I’m brought out of my daydream by a hand waving in my face. “Earth to Selene.” I look up at the smiling face of Everleigh and a laughing Adrian.

“That was some daydream, Selene. She called your name three times. Care to share.” Adrian says, while still laughing at me. He’s honestly like the annoying brother I never had.

I can feel my face go ten different shades of red and there is no way I will tell him what I was thinking about. “I have no idea what you are talking about, Adrien.” Turning to look at Everleigh, she’s giving me a smirk, as if she knows exactly where my mind has gone. Clearing my throat, I give her a sheepish smile. “Is there something you need Everleigh?”

She rolls her eyes and hands me a file. “Yes, Tyler wants to know if you're able to take over the Davis file from me. My loving caveman of a husband thinks I’m overworking myself with the project I’m working on now and wants me to slow down a little. Since I found out I’m pregnant, he thinks I’m fragile and an going to break. So not to listen to him bitch anymore and to make him not have a heart attack before the baby is born, I told him I would slow down a little. Though I may have to get his mom Kay involved if he doesn’t stop freaking out over every little thing.” She has a little scowl on her face as she rubs her still flat stomach, but I know she loves Tyler, something fierce. All our men are practically cavemen.

Adrian barks out a laugh while shaking his head. “Damn, that’s harsh telling a man's mom on him.”

Everleigh throws her hands up in the air, giving him the stink eye. “Ya, well, if he stopped acting crazy, I won’t have to.” Just then Sienna walks into my office, holding her round belly. It's like baby fever around here. It makes me think about having my own kids one day, hopefully with Alexander.
