“Thanks. Did David have any friends?” asked Logan.
“Uhh, not that I know of…certainly none that visited him here. Ahh, here it is. Antonio Santorelli,” Morgan said, printing out a copy and passing it to Logan.
Logan examined the copy, then looked up, “I appreciate this. Did anyone else ever come in and ask for David?”
“Antonio never asked for him, but…” Morgan leaned back in his chair, staring at the ceiling for a few minutes before saying, “There was a woman who came in…after David had been working here for a while…and wanted to see him. It was his day off, so I told her he wasn’t here. She never came back, as far as I know.”
“Where did David go on his days off?” asked Logan.
“Usually nowhere. He always stayed in his room, but one time he left,” Morgan recalled.
“Any idea where he might have gone?” Logan asked, then seeing Morgan’s hesitation, he added, “This is important. Zane’s wolf said David is in danger and after what happened last night, and the information we found out today, it’s critical we find him. Any help you can give us would be valuable.”
“A good friend of mine picked him up and probably took him for a boat ride. David was back by evening, looking happier than I’d seen him since we first met,” answered Morgan.
Logan glanced at Kieran and saw his mate grin. “Would that friend be Captain Brian Crannach?” he asked.
“Yes,” said Morgan, surprised. “Do you know him?”
“We’ve met. Do you think David knew him well enough to show up on his boat in the middle of the night?” asked Logan.
“I don’t know, but Brian’s a good guy,” Morgan answered.
“One other question. Did David call you today?” asked Logan.
“Yes, asked for a few days off. Said he and Zane wanted to talk and sort out everything. I gave him the days off because I’m happy he found someone to protect him. I don’t know much about David, but I do know he is the kindest soul I’ve ever met,” Morgan said.
Nodding, Logan rose with Kieran. “I agree. Thanks for all your help. If you hear from David or Zane, tell them I need to hear from them right away and if you can think of anything else, I’d appreciate it if you call me,” Logan said, handing Morgan a card with his number.
“Will do, and please let me know when you find David,” Morgan said. “He’s like a son to me.”
Chapter 16
As Zane got up to make more tea for them, he peeked out the window. The storm had finally come, making him thankful to be inside in a cozy, warm cottage with his mate.
“Want something to eat?” he asked David.
“Are there any cookies left from our picnic?”
“Yup, Brian must have a sweet tooth because he sure did stock up on them.”
“The first time I ate cookies was on his boat,” David said.
“I’ve had lots of cookies,” said Zane, “but these are addictive. I gotta tell Dakota about these.”
“Why? Does he have a sweet tooth too?”
“Uhm, yeah, maybe. I know he loves making cookies for the Long Night Moon Festival.”
“He cooks?”
“Shit, I forgot to tell you. Dakota is the chef for the pack and wait till you try his food, you’ll never taste anything better anywhere else,” Zane said, as he sat down, handing the steaming mug to David and placing the package of cookies between them. “Kota was studying to be a chef when our parents died, so he just assumed that role.”
“What doyoudo for the pack?”
“I’m a computer programmer, Logan is an interior designer…just for the pack right now…but once we get the crap with my uncle sorted out, he’ll be free to work for others. Cody and Dylon are starting a home for gay boys…”
“That’s kind of unusual,” said David. “Why?”
